1. Who led the group that included Nathan and Lydia to Ohio?

Answer: Mother Smith

Martin led a later group of Saints and Thomas Marsh led the second half of Mother Smith's group. Joseph had gone ahead to Ohio with Emma to prepare for the other Saints to come.
2. What did Nathan and Lydia originally plan to name their oldest son?

Answer: Nathan

They had planned for their son's name to be Nathan Morgan Steed, after his father. Instead, because of an impression Nathan had during the blessing, he blessed the baby Joshua Benjamin Steed. They later named two of their sons Nathan Joseph. Little Nathan died when he was four, and later they used the name again, calling the boy Joseph.
3. Who got married in this book?

Answer: Melissa and Carl

Nathan and Lydia also married at the beginning of the book. Joshua married Jessica in book 1, "Pillar of Light", and they divorce in "Like a Fire is Burning". Joshua marries Caroline in Book 3, "Truth Will Prevail" which is also where Mary and Hyrum marry.
4. Which was NOT a reason Nathan wished to visit Missouri?

Answer: He wanted to go where Joseph went.

Although Nathan likes Joseph, this was not a reason he wanted to join him on the trip to Missouri.

Heber and Nathan gave Parley a blessing that told him to go on a mission to Cananda. On the way home, Heber felt impressed to tell Nathan that he would accomany Parley to Toronto.

Benjamin agreed to help the Saints build the temple, but Joseph told him that to really help, he needed to be baptized and receive the keys of the priesthood. To Mary Ann's joy and amazement, Benjamin agreed to Joseph's request.

Answer: Brigham Young

"The Lord will have a pure people." The men were struck with a plague because they were not worthy to redeem Zion. Some died. Joseph was struck with the illness when he attempted to heal some of the men. Although only half of the men took sick, it was a lesson to them all. Brigham Young had been promised that, if he went on Zion's Camp, no harm would befall him.
8. Joshua and Jessica are still married at the end of the book.

Answer: false

Joshua fled after beating Jessica. When he returned, she had joined the Mormons. This infuriated Joshua, who divorced her. Then he led the Missourians driving the Mormons, including his ex-wife and child, out of Jackson County.
9. Which Steed family member living in Kirtland did not attend the temple dedication?

Answer: Melissa

Melissa had let her church attendence diminish to create peace with her non-member husband. But missing the dedication was very painful for her.
10. Who wrote the song, "The Spirit of God", which was sung at the Kirtland Temple dedication?

Answer: W. W. Phelps

While Eliza R. Snow wrote 11 hymns for the LDS Church, "The Spirit of God" is not one of them. W.W. Phelps wrote 15 hymns that are still used in the LDS Church today.
