After dinner, Jennsen realizes that they are under attack from soldiers, when Sebastian helps defeat them. Jennsen and Sebastian continue to travel together until the end of the novel.

Before Oba Rahl went to visit Lathea and killed her, he was a well-behaved person. He did all his chores and did his best to do as his mother requested, no matter how much he disliked what she told him and how she treated him. Even though his mother treated him poorly, Oba did as he was told. Only after he realized that he was invincible (to magic) and killed Lathea did he turn into a depraved murderer.

Answer: The Keeper

Since Oba and Jennsen are holes in the world, they act like a conduit from the world of the living to the world of the dead. In this way the Keeper can talk to them and try to influence their actions.

Answer: They are the evil spawn of Darken Rahl.

While they are both undoubtedly children of Darken Rahl, they are not BOTH evil. Oba Rahl is certainly evil, but Jennsen is definitely not. Although a little misguided and deceived throughout the novel, Jennsen does not become pure evil like Oba.

Rikka is the Mord-Sith that is with Verna and the Army. Nyda is at the People's Palace and is shocked when her agiel is not effective against Jennsen or Oba. She eventually helps Jennsen escape from the People's Palace because she believes she is on a mission to protect Lord Rahl.

We learn this when Richard Rahl speaks to Jennsen at the Pillars of Creation. Jennsen eventually chooses the future and does not attack Richard instead of dwelling on the pain of the past and her persecution by Darken Rahl.

Answer: She is powerless to help.

Althea tells Jennsen that she indeed did cast a spell on her when she was very young to make everyone think that she was still a newborn. When Darken Rahl realized what she did, he twisted her power to confine her to the swamp. The only power he left her was the power of prophecy which she said was a curse. Left powerless to help, Althea told Jennsen that magic was but a tool to help, and that she would have to think for herself in order to succeed.

Answer: He demands answers.

Oba Rahl had intended to force answers out of Althea and then kill her. He only gets to demand answers because Althea poisons herself before Oba can kill her. She does answer some of his questions but does not tell him everything. Oba eventually steals money and supplies from the house before leaving.

Answer: Magic does not exist to them.

Since they are holes in the world, not only are they immune to magic, but magic does not exist when they are concerned. This means that they cannot be detected by magic, harmed with magic, see objects affected by magic, or even be depicted in prophecies.

They are NOT however invincible since they can be harmed by conventional means (swords and arrows) nor can they specifically defeat someone who is gifted.

Answer: He rushes into the Palace trying to kill Richard and Kahlan.

After seeing Brother Narev's head (Compliments of Richard Rahl), he rushes into the Confessor's Palace after Richard and Kahlan, who are really Zedd and Adie. Jennsen figures this out because she doesn't see the magic used to trick Jagang and his men.

Answer: The Keeper's Furnace

The Keeper's Furnace is the name given to the Pillars of Creation by Sebastian because it is so deathly hot in that area that no one goes in or out. Since Jennsen was born pristinely ungifted, it means she is a hole in the world unaffected by magic and a pillar of creation, the name given both to the pristinely ungifted and to the place in the old world.

Answer: Kahlan and the Sword of Truth

The Keeper who has already taken over Oba's mind tells him to take Kahlan and the Sword of Truth so that Richard will follow them to the Pillars of Creation.

Answer: He has been following her.

Tom helped take Jennsen to the back entrance to Althea's swamp. After helping her, he realized that she wasn't really a protector of the Lord Rahl so he followed her to make sure that she didn't get into trouble, or more importantly, didn't harm Lord Rahl.

Betty is the goat that Jennsen thought she had lost at the People's Palace when she left it with Irma the sausage lady. She had to leave without Betty when she thought that Nathan Rahl and the D'Harans were after her.
