Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. When we meet our Midwestern heroine in the first book, Lizzie Nichols, she has just finished a degree in what at the University of Michigan?

Answer: Fashion history

Lizzie Nichols is a connoisseur of period and antique fashion. She finds her niche in France when she refurbishes a near-ruined wedding gown in her future boyfriend's family. This project is the premise for her journey to New York, in the sequel.
2. Lizzie travels overseas in the first book to meet her online boyfriend. What is his name?

Answer: Andy

Andy is her first "boyfriend"; he turns out to be a compulsive gambler who invited her to England assuming she had lots of money to bail him out. She hasn't met Luke, her true love, at this point; Chaz is her best friend Shari's boyfriend; and Angelo is her brother-in-law.
3. Lizzie visits France, upon invitation from her friends, after a series of unfortunate events in England. Her friends are staying with royalty for a wedding, and she eventually falls in love with their son. What is the turning point, which makes her realize how much she cares about him?

Answer: He brings her a six-pack of diet Coke, which she has been craving since she came to Europe but unable to get.

Luke does break up with Dominique, but she is only his girlfriend; they weren't engaged. She ends up with his musician cousin. His parents actually like Lizzie, especially after she helps reunite them when they were on the brink of divorce, and refurbishes an old wedding dress that was soiled from years of being wrapped around a rifle.

They actually couldn't stand Dominique, if I remember correctly. Luke never mentions anything about them ruling France. I find it odd that she was unable to get diet Coke anywhere, considering how prevalent the Coca-Cola company is everywhere.

It is sold at every newsagent in England, and it's available in every European country, including France, that I've been to. Sometimes you can even get Dr. Pepper, if you're willing to put up with the different flavor it has there!
4. In the sequel, Lizzie has moved to New York with Luke. Where are they living?

Answer: In his mother's Fifth Avenue apartment, across from the Met.

Luke's mother bought the Fifth Ave. apartment when she was separated from his father. She lets Luke live there, and since Lizzie has trouble finding a job and place to live when she first arrives, he says she should just live with him. No matter they've only been dating a few months! She was originally going to live with Shari, but goes with Luke's offer, to Shari's chagrin.
5. Lizzie has a reputation for having a big mouth; in the first book, this nearly destroyed her budding relationship with Luke. However, in the sequel, she learns to keep mum more, after working with some high-profile people and finding out a secret about her best friend. What is that secret?

Answer: The reason Shari left Chaz was for her boss, who happens to be a woman.

It's kind of a given, as throughout the book she works "long hours" and speaks reverently of her boss, Pat. Being typical males, both Luke and Chaz wonder if Lizzie and Shari ever experimented with each other. Men.
6. Lizzie is fired from her job at Chaz's father's high-profile law firm. Why?

Answer: The press finds out she is refurbishing a wedding dress for a high-profile client, which is a conflict of interest.

Lizzie is interning for a French couple, who are certified wedding gown restorers; after her experiment with the dress in France, she knows this is her career path. At her law firm job, she meets a woman named Jill who is well-known in the "New York Journal" for being engaged to the son of one of New York's most wealthy families. Jill's future mother-in-law hates the fact that Jill works in a zoo, not least because she assumes Jill is after her son's money, so Jill is forced to negotiate a prenup at the law firm.

The press has a field day with her because she isn't a conventional society bride, and call her Blubber. The mother-in-law expects Jill to wear her family's tartan wedding gown, which is hideous, and Lizzie offers her services to Jill.

The press finds out and does a spread on the designers, which, though it brings great business for the failing store, is a breach of Lizzie's contract. Her boss lets her go. But it works out for the best, as Lizzie is able to negotiate a salary at the store by proving herself to the doubting Thomases, who were reluctant to hire her at the beginning.
7. What does Luke give Lizzie for Christmas?

Answer: A new sewing machine.

Lizzie has marriage on the brain, mostly from her job. She feels Luke is the one, despite his best friend Chaz telling her he's not the "following-through" type. When he tells her he bought her an "investment for the future," she figures he's going to propose.

But she is devastated to open a new, high-tech sewing machine, which he bought her to replace her beloved antique one his father broke while visiting. Lizzie runs out of the apartment, to Shari and Pat's, after a tearful discussion of what each one sees in the future.
8. Lizzie's sisters, Rose and Sarah, have an interesting take on her situation when she explains the breakup over Christmas vacation. What is it?

Answer: She should have gotten pregnant.

Lizzie's sisters both got married "shotgun"-style, and it is obvious in the books they envy Lizzie her freedom and success. Women like that set us back.
9. Lizzie gets a New Year's kiss from somebody at Jill's wedding. Who is he?

Answer: Chaz

Yes, seems Chaz has been harboring a crush on Lizzie! Should make for an interesting third book, considering the ending.
10. Are Luke and Lizzie engaged by the end of the second book, "Queen of Babble in the Big City"?

Answer: No

Luke proposes to Lizzie at the absolute end, though they're unofficially broken up; he hasn't contacted her in a week and she's moved out. Chaz is upstairs, having come home with Lizzie after the New Year's festivities and suggesting they try a relationship. We never know her answer. Great cliffhanger!
