Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What were the wizards doing when blasted into the Roundworld?

Answer: Playing paintball

Yes, the wizards were indeed playing paintball. If Ridcully hadn't locked their staves onto paint spells only, they would have destroyed the forest. Ridcully believes that getting out into the fresh air and doing things as a team will make them better at their jobs.
2. What does Ridcully's message arrive in?

Answer: A beer bottle

It arrived in an empty bottle of Winkle's Old Peculiar, down to the May Contain Nuts message. The note mentioned that the beer was awful on Roundworld and to bring Ponder and the Librarian to help him.
3. Who receives Ridcully's message in a bottle?

Answer: Rincewind

When the bottle appears, Rincewind is nervous (of course) and studies it before removing the message. HEX (reluctantly) tells them that he may not be able to get the wizards back alive and normal, so Rincewind and Ponder force the Librarian to take them through L-Space.
4. What does a fishmonger kill Shakespeare with in one reality?

Answer: A pike

The fishmonger hits him with a pike (the fish), which kills him in a riot. The wizards ask if HEX means halberd, and they are shocked when he says no, he means a fish. They solve this problem by having the Librarian knock out the fishmonger.
5. How did the wizards make the Bursar sane?

Answer: They didn't, they just made him think he was

The wizards tampered with the Bursar's dried frog pills so that he would permanently hallucinate that he was sane.
6. All of the Shell Midden people are named Ug.

Answer: True

The Shell Midden people were very content to sit back and let life pass them by. They really just eat clams, and pretty much worship fire. However, they don't like matches because they prefer things to happen slowly.
7. What do Rincewind and Ponder call the Librarian, on HEX's advice?

Answer: A Spanish lady

HEX tells them that if they call him a Spanish lady after giving him a shave, hardly anyone will notice. This is so true that even the wizards are fooled until they are told that it's the Librarian standing on the Luggage.
8. Which of the wizards just taps himself on the shoulder when they went back to stop themselves stopping the elves?

Answer: Rincewind

Rincewind just taps himself on the shoulder, as he has already met himself once and needed no proof that it was him.
9. Which wizard actually enjoyed his own company?

Answer: Mustrum Ridcully

The other wizards (excepting Rincewind) try not to look at themselves. Ridcully, however, seems to enjoy being and talking with himself.
10. What does the Dean say is the error in "The Comedy of Errors"?

Answer: There wasn't any comedy

The wizards were studying their Shakespeare to get ready for their visit to the theater to watch "A Midsummer Night's Dream", which they hoped would make people quit believing in elves. The Dean, as you can tell, didn't think much of "The Comedy of Errors".
11. Now for the chapters in-between: For how long does a galloping horse have all four legs in the air?

Answer: 1/5 or more of the time

Aristotle wrote that a horse never has all four legs off the ground because it would fall over. However, thanks to quick photography, now we know that a horse often has all four legs off the ground.
12. What does Terry Pratchett say is another name for Lies-to-Adults?

Answer: Politics

Terry Pratchett calls politics Lies-to-Adults. He also says that many things we tell children are lies, but we are ready to defend our decisions, and we say "Oh, they couldn't take the truth." Politics is very much like that.
13. Terry Pratchett believes that we shouldn't be known as "Homo Sapiens", we should be known as "Pan Narrans".

Answer: True

Terry Pratchett says that we shouldn't call ourselves "Homo Sapiens", or Wise Man, and that it is very arrogant of us to say that we are. He says we should be known as "Pan Narrans", the Storytelling Chimpanzee.
14. What does a bee see in?

Answer: Ultraviolet

Bees see in ultraviolet, which is outside the human visible spectrum. To a bee, a flower is brighter in some places and darker in others, but for reasons other than how we see it.
15. Who invented binary code?

Answer: Claude Shannon

Claude Shannon was a mathematician who became an engineer. He then invented binary code to send messages. Ian Stewart and Jack Cohen helped Terry Pratchett write the "The Science of Discworld" books. Barbara Mertz reviewed some of the "Discworld" novels.
