Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Prof. Johnston was taken to Sir De Kere's tower chamber?

Answer: No

After the team was caught by Sir Guy in the secret corridor at Castelgard, they were taken to see Lord Oliver. Prof. Johnston pretended to not know they were there from the start. This angered Lord Oliver and he didn't believe Prof. Johnston that the other three were his assistants.

He ordered them to be locked up in the dungeon, however, Sir Guy stated that that was where they had escaped from in the first place. Sir De Kere suggested that they get locked up in his secured tower chamber high atop Castelgard. Lord Oliver agreed and ordered Sir Guy to place two guards outside the door and one inside to watch them.
2. Who was the first to escape the tower chamber?

Answer: Kate

After Kate started to climb out a window into the corridor, Chris and Marek acted as though they were getting angry with one another. When Chris went to pick up a stool to hit Marek, the guard inside stopped him, but not before Marek brought a metal candlestick on the guard's head; knocking him out. Now, the task at hand was to get the door off or opened so they could escape. Kate, who had already escaped, went to find a hammer or something to pry the hinges off with.
3. Someone else was suspected of having an extra earpiece. Who did Marek suspect had one?

Answer: Sir Guy

Marek thought it was Sir Guy because he spoke bad Occitan and was a poor jouster. Guy was unable to unseat Chris off his horse on the first try. However, Kate and Chris both agreed that they felt it was De Kere because his men always somehow knew where they were going or hiding.
4. Who, according to Prof. Johnston, had "the key" to the secret passage to La Roque?

Answer: Brother Marcellus

Prof. Johnston told the group to head towards the monastery because he said that Brother Marcellus had the "key" that would lead them to the secret passage into La Roque. When the group got to the monastery, they found they were too late and that Brother Marcellus was dead.
5. In his dying words, where did the Abbot say the "key" was to the secret passage to La Roque located?

Answer: in Brother Marcellus' room

The Abbot met with Marek and the others after he was finished with Lady Claire. As the Abbot and Marek talked, the Abbot said that Marcellus had many keys. His conversation was cut short when Sir Guy's archers shot and killed him. One of the archers got Marek in the leg. While Marek was tending to the Abbot, the Abbot said in his dying words, "room". Marek only assumed that he meant Marcellus' room which was located in the mill which was ruled by Lord Oliver.
6. Who of the following did NOT make it into the mil?

Answer: Chris

As the team headed into the river, they were all going to try and grab a mill wheel at the bottom and lift themselves into the mill. However, when Chris tried to grab a wheel, he slipped off and the current swept him away. He ended up on the north side of the Dordonne River where he knew he would be able to meet up with Kate and Marek.
7. Was the word "Vivix" an actual Latin word?

Answer: No

When Elsie had received the Professor's message of help, she was looking through the other parchments and saw a word which she did not recognize. The word was "Vivix". She looked it up in a Latin dictionary, but couldn't find it. When Marek and Kate searched Marcellus's room, Marek found the word on the back of the door to Marcellus's room. Along with diagrams and such.

The word wasn't a word but rather Roman numerals. Above the "Vivix" was another word of "DeCiDe". This was a directional code. De for Dextra, Ci for Cinestra, and De for Dextra.

In Latin, it meant: Right , 5 (V) paces; Left, 4 (IV) paces; Right 9 (IX) paces to get to the secret passage into La Roque.
8. Whose men saved Chris and Kate from the river after the mill exploded?

Answer: Lord Arnaut's men

As Marek and Kate were escaping from De Kere's men, Kate pulled out one of the fire cubes that said "60" and threw it in the grain bin. The yellow dust from the pouring grain was highly explosive and when the cube lit, the mill exploded. Kate was nearly caught by De Kere but managed to get herself free. Arnaut's knight, Romondo, put himself in between Kate and Chris and Sir Guy's archers and pulled them from the river. He then took them to see Arnaut who was nearly going to kill Chris before Lady Claire intervened.
9. Did Marek survive the explosion?

Answer: Yes

Before Kate caught up with Chris, Chris saw Marek jump out of a window battling one of De Kere's men. However, Chris did not see him come to the surface. Chris saw a white monk's robe go floating down the river in front of him followed by a body floating face down. Since Chris did not see Marek come to the surface, he automatically assumed that it was him. However, another of Arnaut's men captured Marek and told him to hide in the shadows and was trying to play him against the other two in attempts to gain information.
10. What was used to start Prof. Johnston's "automatic fire"?

Answer: water

Marek was taken to see Prof. Johnston at La Roque, he found him sitting on the floor grinding gunpowder. This process was called incorporation. Sometimes it took over 6 hours to complete the process to make the powder so fine that it was more useful. Prof. Johnston put a demonstration on for Lord Oliver using arrows which were coated with a special paste.

When the arrow coated with this paste came into contact with the damp ground, it smoldered and then caught fire. When battle crews tried to put the fire out, it spread even more. Lord Oliver was pleased and told Prof. Johnston that he could have all the men he needed to make the stuff up.
11. Who was the first to reach the Green Chapel?

Answer: Kate

Chris and Kate ended up going to the Green Chapel to try and find the secret passage to La Roque. However, Kate got to the chapel first. As she went to enter, a tall knight, said to be the insane knight who guarded the entrance, was angered by Kate's presence and hauled her to a chopping block. The knight was about to chop Kate's head off when Chris came up and saved the day. They knocked the knight unconscious and then chopped his head off with his sword.
12. What did Lord Oliver call the oil pit at La Roque?

Answer: Me Lady's Bath

Lord Oliver was angered at the fact that Lord Arnaut had what was known as the thunderbolt stone and was inquiring as to how he knew how to make it. Prof. Johnston did not know. Lord Oliver took him to an oil pit which was about 30 ft. deep. The pit had a cage that the prisoner would be in and then lowered into the pit to drown. Lord Oliver called this pit "Me Lady's Bath". He warned Johnston that if anyone else finds that passage before he did then Johnston would die in Me Lady's Bath.
13. Who caught Chris and Kate in the back of the fire place at La Roque?

Answer: Sir Guy

In the meantime, kate and Chris found the underground river that led to La Roque and the secret passage. They found a set of steps leading upward and found that it came out into the back of the fireplace in the great hall of La Roque. As they stood there, Sir Guy locked eyes with them, sounded an alarm, and dove through the flames to capture Kate and Chris. He didn't see Chris, but chased Kate to a second level leading out onto some rafters.
14. Marek killed Sir Guy at La Roque.

Answer: False

It was Kate who killed Sir Guy. As Sir Guy chased her around the rafters, he put his hand on one of the struts supporting the roof of the castle. Kate drove her dagger into his hand; pinning it to the wood and then knocked his feet out from under him. Kate then pulled the dagger out of his hand and Sir Guy fell to his death below.
15. Who did Kate discover had the extra earpiece?

Answer: Sir De Kere

As the battle ensued outside, kate turned her earpiece back on and talked into it to Chris and Marek. As she did so, she saw De Kere clap his hand over his ear and looked in her direction. The battle was going to come down to the wire.
16. Who did Lord Oliver put in the oil pit?

Answer: Prof. Johnston

Lord Oliver, making good on his promise, put Prof. Johnston in the cage to Me Lady's Bath. He was just lowering him into the pit when Arnaut's men came up and started the fighting. Arnaut and Oliver had a huge sword battle to which Arnaut pinned Oliver to the railing which surrounded the pit. Meanwhile, Marek and Chris were in the process of killing off Oliver's men and cranking the cage back out of the oily water. None of the men they killed had the keys to the cage except Oliver.
17. Did Lord Arnaut kill Lord Oliver?

Answer: No

Marek approached Arnaut and said they needed the keys to the cage. Arnaut asked Oliver for the keys and Oliver refused at first. Arnaut told Oliver if he handed over the keys then he would spare his life. Oliver did so and asked if Arnaut was going to be true to his word. Arnaut said he would and picked up Oliver and tossed him over the rail and into the pit.

After all, Arnaut didn't kill him, he "bathed" him. Oliver just had to know how to swim well!
18. How many came back to the present-day?

Answer: 3

After Chris killed off De Kere in the Arsenal by using the automatic fire, he and the rest of the team started heading back out of La Roque. On the way out, however, the drawbridge was up. Marek went to go crank it back down. There was less than 20 seconds left. But, Marek lived for this sort of lifestyle and instead wanted to stay behind. Only Kate, Prof. Johnston, and Chris returned to the present.
19. What year was Doniger sent back to?

Answer: 1348

When the team came back, they conspired with Gordon to do something and punish Doniger for his actions. Gordon led Doniger to the transit room and sprayed him with the gas canister. When Doniger awoke, he found that he was going into the machine and transported to another time. They ended up transporting him to the year 1348. In that year, the Black Plague was happening. Doniger caught the plague and is assumed to have died from it.
20. According to the grave marker at Eltham Castle, what year did Marek die?

Answer: 1382

Elsie and the rest of the team found Eltham Castle. While there, they found Lady Claire along side Andre Marek. Marek was now dead and was buried next to Lady Claire in the family burial plot at the castle. Marek was now called Sir Andrew d'Eltham. Marek died in 1382 at the age of 53.

He was married to the Lady Claire and had five sons. Two statements were listed in a flyer that Elsie had. One was of his dying words which were, "I have chosen a good life." And the other was noted as, "To those companions I have loved, let them hear my song." Marek always lived and breathed the medieval times and volunteered to stay behind forever.
