Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who directed 'Death to Smoochy'?

Answer: Danny DeVito

Danny DeVito also plays Burke Bennett, a sleazy agent who is one of the co-conspirators plotting to kill Smoochy.
2. Why is Rainbow Randolph Smiley kicked off of his show?

Answer: He was taking bribes to put children up front on his show.

He took money from two F.B.I. agents posing as parents and was arrested. Buggy Ding Dong was the kid show host who had been removed due to drug addiction.
3. Which one of these was NOT a tagline for the movie?

Answer: He's on a rhino safari

Sorry if I confused you with the 'He's blue' line since he was clearly purple. I got these taglines from the 'Internet Movie Data Base', and that's how it was written.
4. What happened to Merv Green when he accidently has Moochy killed instead of Smoochy?

Answer: His head was chopped off with an axe.

Merv Green was head of a Mob-type organization who wanted Smoochy dead because he wouldn't let them make money off of him. Moochy was Spinner Dunn, a former boxer who had taken too many blows to the head. Spinner's cousin was Tommy Cotter, who ran a bit of an Irish mob of her own. She made sure that Spinner's death was avenged.
5. What was the catchword of the song that Rainbow Randolph sang at the beginning of every show ('Friends come in all_______.')?

Answer: sizes

Robin Williams might be a comedic genius, but he isn't much of a singer!
6. Smoochy's favourite saying was, 'You can't change the world, but you can ________________'.

Answer: make a dent

Smoochy says this several times throughout the movie, both on his show and when speaking to the people around him.
7. What famous moment in children's broadcasting did Sheldon Mopes (Smoochy) claim to have happened on the day that he was born?

Answer: first broadcast of 'Sesame Street'

Sheldon said he was born on Nov. 11, 1970 which was not the day that Sesame Street first aired. According to the Internet Movie Database 'Sesame Street' aired a full year earlier on Nov. 10, 1969.
8. In the big ice show near the end of the movie, when Smoochy is paying tribute to his murdered friend Spinner Dunn, Chinese writing appears on the ice. What do these letters mean?

Answer: Dead Rhino

The whole ice show was a reenactment of what had happened to Smoochy and Moochy. It was Smoochy's tribute to his friend, but seemed very inappropriate for the children in the audience.
9. When Rainbow Randolph was trying to get Smoochy discredited, he tricked him into performing in front of what group?

Answer: a Neo-Nazi group

Randolph tricked Sheldon into thinking he was playing for a children's group and then arranged to have the rally raided. Smoochy's show was cancelled until Randolph slipped up and admitted that he framed Smoochy, and was then forced to publically admit this fact.
10. After Merv Green's attempt to kill Smoochy failed, who next plotted to have the deed accomplished?

Answer: Frank Stokes and Burke Bennett

Burke and Frank, frustrated by Sheldon's honesty and refusal to sell out, hired Buggy Ding Dong to kill Smoochy. They promised him that if he succeeded in killing Smoochy, he could have his old children's show back.
11. What were Buggy Ding Dong's last words?

Answer: I never saw Venice.

Buggy was up in the catwalks trying to shoot Smoochy during the ice show. Randolph spotted him up there and ran up to stop him. During their fight Buggy fell down onto the ice and died, he uttered these words as he fell. Before he fell managed to get off a shot but it only grazed the rhino costume and took off Smoochy's horn.
12. Robin Williams did his own skating in the ice show and at the very end of the movie.

Answer: False

Canadian figure skater Elvis Stojko did both the choreography, and the actual skating.
13. Name the person who said this: 'Someone throw me a beach towel because my head is swimming.'

Answer: Sheldon Mopes

Sheldon says this after Randolph tells him that Nora, who Sheldon has become romantically involved with, has also had affairs with a number of kid show hosts, including Randolph. When confronted, Nora admits to having been a 'kiddy host groupie'.
14. Who played Smoochy?

Answer: Edward Norton

Norton's film debut was as a psychotic killer in 'Primal Fear', a movie starring Richard Gere. He is equally convincing as a psychotic killer as he is playing a squeaky clean kid show host.
15. When Sheldon gets to live in the 'corporate penthouse', what is on the picture he has above the mantle?

Answer: a real life rhinoceros

When Randolph sees the picture he refers to it as Sheldon's mother.
