Answer: Greyfriars Bobby

Bobby Driscoll (1937-1968) was Disney's first child star. His first movie for Disney was "Song of the South" (1946). In 1949 Bobby won a special Academy Award as the outstanding juvenile actor for his work in the Disney film "So Dear To My Heart" and for his work in "The Window".

As Jim Hawkins in Disney's "Treasure Island" in 1950, Bobby held his own playing opposite the larger than life Long John Silver as created by actor Robert Newton. Perhaps his most timeless movie was Disney's animated classic "Peter Pan" for which he provided not only the voice of Peter Pan but was also the model from which the character was drawn.

He did not appear in the 1961 film "Greyfriars Bobby" whose cast included Donald Crisp, Alex MacKenzie, and Kay Walsh.

Answer: Uncle Albert

Ed Wynn (1886-1966), like many entertainers of his generation, began his career on the vaudeville stage, but unlike so many others, he went on to have great success as an actor. His first Disney film appearance was as the fire chief in "The Absent Minded Professor" (1961) which was also the only Disney film he made with his son, Keenan Wynn, another veteran Disney actor.

Some of Ed Wynn's other Disney films are: "Babes in Toyland" (1961), "Son of Flubber" (1963), "That Darn Cat" (1965), and "The Gnome-Mobile" (1967).

He also provided the voice of the Mad Hatter in Disney's animated film "Alice In Wonderland" (1951). One of his most popular roles was that of Mary's Uncle Albert in the Disney classic "Mary Poppins" (1964).

Answer: Escape to Witch Mountain

Two of Disney's most talented young stars of the 1960s were Matthew Garber and Karen Dotrice. They played Jane and Michael Banks in "Mary Poppins" (1964) and Elizabeth and Rodney Winthrop in "The Gnome-Mobile" (1967). Karen Dotrice played Mary McDhul and Matthew Garber appeared as Geordie in "The Three Lives of Thomasina" (1964). "Escape to Witch Mountain" (1975) featured Ike Eisenmann and Kim Richard as Tony and Tia.

Answer: Blackbeard's Ghost

One of the best moments in "Blackbeard's Ghost" came at the beginning when Miss Stowecroft told Steve Walker's fortune. She grabbed his hand, let out a shriek and told he would be stirring up things best left to rot! Elsa Lanchester (1902-1986) had a very successful career which spanned many decades. During the 1960s, she made several movies for Disney.

In "That Darn Cat" (1965) she appeared as Mrs. MacDougall and Dean Jones starred as FBI Agent Zeke Kelso. She also appeared in "Mary Poppins" (1964) as Katie Nanna and in "Rascal" (1969) as Mrs. Satterfield. During the 1960s and 1970s, Dean Jones was one of Disney most popular stars.

He starred in many Disney comedies including "The Love Bug" (1968), "The Snowball Express" (1972), and "Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo" (1977).

Annette Funicello made her Disney film debut in the 1959 comedy "The Shaggy Dog". She also appeared in such Disney films as "Babes In Toyland" (1961), and "The Monkey's Uncle" (1965). Hayley Mills made her Disney film debut in "Pollyanna" as Pollyanna, the girl who looked on the bright side, for which she won a special Juvenile Academy Award.

The fine ensemble cast of "Pollyanna" included Jane Wyman, Richard Egan, Agnes Moorehead, Karl Malden, and Kevin Corcoran. Hayley went on to star in many more Disney films including "The Parent Trap" (1961), "In Search of the Castaways" (1962), "Summer Magic" (1963), and "That Darn Cat" (1965).

Answer: Fess Parker

Fess Parker played the lead role in "Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier" (1955), the movie which inspired a generation of children to wear fake coon skin caps while singing the "Davy Crockett" theme song. Parker's portrayal of larger than life Crockett ensured him a place in Disney history, but he made several other Disney movies including "Davy Crockett and the River Pirates" (1956), "Old Yeller" (1957), "The Light in the Forest" (1958).

The cast of "Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier" also included Buddy Edsen as Davy's sidekick George Russell, Helene Stanley as Mrs. Polly Crockett, and Basil Ruysdael as Andrew Jackson.

Answer: Johnny Tremaine

Talented actor James MacArtur is best remembered as Dan Williams in the long-running television police drama "Hawaii Five-O" but before "Book'em Danno" became a catch phrase, James MacArthur appeared in many fine Disney films. Some of his films and roles were: John Butler in "The Light in the Forest" (1958), David Balfour in "Kidnapped" (1960), and Franz Robinson in "Swiss Family Robinson" (1960).

Answer: Merlin Jones

Tommy Kirk played Merlin Jones, the oddball genius, in "The Misadventures of Merlin Jones" (1964) and in the 1965 sequel "The Monkey's Uncle" (1965). From 1957-1965, Tommy Kirk made eleven movies for Disney. Some of his Disney films are: "Old Yeller" (1957", "The Shaggy Dog" (1959), "Swiss Family Robinson" (1960), "Babes in Toyland" (1961), "The Absent Minded Professor" (1961) and "Moon Pilot" (1962).

Answer: The Apple Dumpling Gang

Comic greats Don Knotts (1924-2006) and Tim Conway made three Disney movies together. The first was the "The Apple Dumpling Gang" (1975), followed by "Gus" (1976), and "The Apple Dumpling Gang Rides Again" (1979). Don Knotts and Tim Conway also made other Disney films without the other. Tim Conway appeared in "The Shaggy D.A." (1976) and "The World's Greatest Athlete" (1973). Don Knotts co-starred in "Herbie Goes To Monte Carlo" (1977) and "No Deposit, No Return" (1975). "The Adventures of Bullwhip Griffin" (1967) featured Roddy McDowall as Eric "Bullwhip" Griffin and Suzanne Pleshette as Arabella Flagg. Both were veterans of several Disney films.

Answer: Prof. Emelius Browne

Of course, the part of apprentice witch Eglantyne Price was played by Angela Lansbury. David Tomlinson co-starred as Prof. Emelius Browne, the headmaster of the Emelius Browne Correspondence College of Witchcraft, London. The cast of "Bedknobs and Broomsticks" also included Cindy O'Callaghan, Roy Snart, and Ian Weighill as the Rawlins children. David Tomlinson also played George Banks in "Mary Poppins" (1964) and Mr. Thorndyke in the 1968 Disney comedy "The Love Bug". Thank you for sharing some of my favorite Disney moments.
