SHIELD, which stands for "Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division", was created when Hydra fell after World War II. In "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" (2014), Hydra emerged after years in the shadows and brought down SHIELD.

In "Thor: The Dark World" (2013), Loki faked his own death, and was shown at the end of the movie to be impersonating Thor's father as the king of Asgard.
