Bernie and Cinder Lumen took a boat from their island and sailed to Element City. When they arrived, they spoke Firish and couldn't be understood so they were given the name of Bernie and Cinder Lumen. After being turned away by several people who had rooms to rent, Bernie and Cinder found a place all to themselves.

As Ember began to get older, Bernie taught her about the blue flame that he took with him from Fire Island. The blue flame held the tradition of their people. Bernie kept it in a pot at the back of his store.

A young Ember helped Bernie make the sign for The Fireplace. Bernie and Cinder ran the store with Ember's help. Besides dry goods, the store sold wood snacks, Lava Java, and Kol-Nuts. Bernie wanted Ember to run the store when he retired. Ember's temper, however, kept her from getting along with patrons.

Ember told her dad she could take care of the red dot sale so he could get some rest. When all the customers coming at her at the same time overwhelmed Ember, she blew up causing the pipes to burst in the store.

Wade was searching for a leak when he was accidentally pulled through a crack in the concrete and into the pipes. He got stuck in an obstruction until Ember's meltdown loosened the obstruction and sent Wade through the rest of the pipes and into the store.

Wade told Ember he was a City Inspector and then began to cite the store for thirty violations. Wade ran out of the store to send the violations to his boss before Ember could stop him.

Answer: Windbreakers

Wade felt bad about sending the violations to his boss and wanted to help Ember talk to Gale about reversing the decision to close The Fireplace. Wade had tickets to see the Windbreakers so he invited Ember to go with him.

Ember watched as Gale and Wade cheered on the Windbreakers as they won their game. Gale told Wade and Ember if they could find the source of the leak and stop it, she would forget the violations and the store could stay open.

Answer: Tide & Prejudice

Wade invited Ember out on a date. Ember met Wade at the movie theater so they could see "Tide & Prejudice". Wade took Ember to a photo booth and then they went to an observation deck to look out over Element City.

Wade's family was accepting of the way Wade felt about Ember. While having dinner, Ember found out that Wade was soaked into a sponge when he was a little boy and to this day he was afraid of sponges.

Ember was able to fix a pitcher that broke by molding it into a beautiful new shape. Mrs. Ripple was so amazed by Ember's artistry that she called a friend to ask about an internship at a glassblowing design company.

Answer: They sealed it with sandbags and then heated the sand into glass.

Ember used her ability to heat sand into glass as a way to seal the leak that was bringing water into Fire Town. The seal worked and Gale put a stop to the violations that would shut down The Fireplace.

The seal only worked for a short time and water pressure broke the seal causing Fire Town to become flooded. Wade was able to save the blue flame that was important to Bernie and Ember admitted she didn't want to run the store and that she was in love with Wade.

Months after the seal broke and the town was flooded, Fire Town had been cleaned and repaired. Bernie sold The Fireplace to two of his regular customers, Flarietta and Flarry, while Bernie and Cinder took their place as regular customers. Ember accepted the internship to the glassblowing design company and Wade went with her. Before Ember got onto the boat, she bowed to her father (which was a tradition of their people). Bernie returned the bow and Ember left to begin a new life with Wade.
