Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The beginning of the movie is set at the end of WWII. Our hero finds himself with a noose around his neck, about to be hanged. What unexpected event stops this from happening?

Answer: An Allied bomb falls on the castle.

Searching for the Lance of Loginus, Indy is caught in a large castle being used to store plundered loot that the Nazis are trying to move out ahead of the advancing Allies. An air raid is going on around them and an unexploded bomb pierces the roof and the floor of the room they are in.

The soldiers pull back in horror, giving Indy the opportunity to cut the ropes binding his hand and take hold of the noose around his neck. The bomb's descent has been briefly slowed by the carpet but that doesn't last for long and we watch it fall through several floors before finally exploding, killing the soldiers. Indy manages to get the noose off of his neck just before it, along with the piece of column it was attached to, fall through the hole.
2. Indy makes his way onto the 'plunder train' wearing the uniform of a German officer. He walks through the troops, most of whom show him respect. What gives him away?

Answer: The bullet hole in the uniform jacket is noticed.

As he makes his way through the car full of soldiers, the ones in front of him show him respect. However one of the soldiers behind him sees the hole in the back of the uniform jacket, from the bullet that killed the man who had been wearing the uniform. When Indy sits down and is seen from the front the hole made by the exiting of the bullet is also seen but is not as obvious.
It is on the train that he finds the half piece of the Antikythera.
3. Back in his present (mid to late 1960s) we find Indy asleep in his lounger. What song, blasted from his neighbour's apartment, wakes him up?

Answer: Magical Mystery Tour

"Magical Mystery Tour" is an album released by The Beatles in 1967. There is also a film by the same title that was released in the same year.
In "Dial of Destiny" we hear the title song of the album (including the words "Magical Mystery Tour") blasted at ear-splitting volume and waking Indy. He looks out his window and locates the source as being his neighbour's apartment, which is full of people who are dressed as hippies. Unable to get anyone's attention he throws on a t-shirt, grabs a baseball bat and pounds on the door. When he finally gets to talk to his neighbour, Larry, he explains that they had discussed this. Larry points out that their agreement was only for work days. Indy points out that it is a work day and Larry claims that it isn't because it is 'moon day', referring to the visit by and parade for the Apollo 11 astronauts.
The other answer choices are hit songs from 1967.
4. After Helena (Indy's goddaughter) gets her hands on the Antikythera there is a grand chase throughout the city, with Indy chasing her and them both being chased by Nazis. She takes off with it to take it to auction. Who tells Indy where to find that auction?

Answer: Sallah

It is night and we find Indy watching the news on a television in a store window, a sight that was common before televisions (and other devices) were so common. Another man watching the news, recognises Indy as the man seen riding the horse through the parade and wanted for murder he didn't commit. He starts to yell for others to notice.
Sallah appears, driving a cab, punches the guy, apologises for being late and takes Indy to his apartment where he is surrounded by his grandchildren. He tells them that Indy is the man responsible for bringing them to America.
He gives Indy everything he needs, including his passport and his whip. He explains where the auction is being held (Tangiers) and warns Indy about other characters who may or may not be there. He drives Indy to the airport and reveals that he brought his own passport and is eager to help Indy on another adventure (as he did in "Raiders of the Lost Ark" and "The Last Crusade") but Indy declines his offer.
Sallah is played (in all three movies) by John Rhys-Davies.
5. After Voller and his thugs take the Antikythera, Indy once more finds himself in a chase, this time through the streets of Tangiers in Morocco. What vehicle is Indy driving, or is a passenger in, for most of the chase?

Answer: a tuk-tuk

A tuk-tuk is like a rickshaw with a motor, and is used in various places throughout Asia and, presumably, in Tangiers. It has three wheels and is partially covered against the sun and the rain. At one point, when the tuk-tuk has broken down, Indy mentions being stuck with a broken tuk-tuk.
Voller and crew escape with the Antikythera, with Indy, Helena and Teddy (Helena's young friend) in pursuit. They steal a tuk-tuk and use it to good result. Indy makes turns opposite to what is suggested by the local Teddy but manages to find a short cut to the escaping Nazis. All goes well until a bullet pierces the radiator, bringing the tuk-tuk to a halt. Indy adds water and uses Teddy's gum to block the hole, making the tuk-tuk usable once more.
At one point Helena and Teddy steal a second tuk-tuk but Indy chases them in his, and manages to transfer into their tuk-tuk.
6. The chase through Tangiers involves three groups. Indy, Helena and Teddy are in pursuit of Voller and his Nazi thugs. Aziz Rahim and his thugs are in pursuit of Indy and friends. Who is Aziz?

Answer: Helena's ex-fiancé

The hotel where the auction is held is owned by Aziz Rahim's father, a known gangster. He lets his son know that she is there. Apparently Helena was engaged to Aziz at one point and, during the pursuit, he alternates between wanting her back and being furious with her. He even says that he supposes she sold the ring and she replies that it didn't fetch as much as she thought it would.
They are taken out of the pursuit when they follow the tuk-tuk down an alley that gradually narrows, eventually becoming too narrow for their car, which becomes stuck.
Alaa Safi plays Aziz Rahim.
7. Indy, Helena and Teddy head to the Aegean Sea (near Greece) to find the graphikos detailing the location of the second half of the Antikythera. Voller once again finds them. How do they get away this time?

Answer: Helena blows a hole through the ship.

Voller takes the graphikos, a tablet made of wax and wood chips, that has directions to the second half of the Antikythera, but he cannot read the code and instructs Indy to do so. Indy refuses and Voller shoots Indy's friend who owns the boat. Helena makes a deal with Voller saying she will read it for payment and he pays her with diamonds.

She deciphers the code while lighting the fuse on a stick of dynamite behind her back, using a cigarette that Voller was smoking. Indy helps with her aim. She blows a hole in the bottom of the boat and she, Indy and Teddy take off in the boat that brought Voller to where they had been diving, with the graphikos in hand.
8. How does Indy find the real directions to the second part of the Antikythera?

Answer: by burning the graphikos

Being made of wax and wood chips, Helena explained that the graphikos is too heavy. Agreeing, Indy poured alcohol on it and set it on fire. The wax and wood chips melted or burned away, leaving a gold tablet which revealed the true location of Archimedes' tomb and the second half of the Antikythera.
9. In "The Dial of Destiny", where do they find Archimedes' tomb?

Answer: The Ear of Dionysius

Located near Syracuse, Sicily, The Ear of Dionysius is a large limestone cave which is vaguely shaped like a human ear but also has the most incredible acoustics and echoes that go on and on. It was dug by ancient Romans to provide a place to store water.
In the movie, there are a series of caves and the location of the tomb requires scaling a wall towards a crescent shaped opening at the top of the cave, like the crescent moon seen on the gold tablet that was found in the graphikos. The tomb is located and the second piece of the Antikythera found with the great man's skeleton. Unfortunately Voller and his remaining thugs have once again followed them. Taking Indy and Helena with them, they board a plane and set the Antikythera for 1939, to assassinate Hitler. Voller believes that with his knowledge of Hitler's mistakes and Hitler out of they way, they will win the war.
Things don't work out as they planned, but fortunately Teddy has stolen a small plane (and, it turns out, the sleeping pilot) to follow, allowing for Indy and Helena's safe return.
10. Shot by Voller and punched unconscious by Helena, Indy wakes up in his apartment in New York, his bullet wound having been bandaged. Helena is there when he wakes. Who enters the apartment shortly afterwards?

Answer: Marion

When the Antikythera took them to Archimedes at the Siege of Syracuse, Indy told Helena that he wanted to stay, largely (but not solely) because there was nothing for him to go back to. Helena argued that he would change history, and with his bullet wound he would probably die. Running out of time, because the window to travel back to the future was closing, she knocked him out by punching him and they put him on the plane.
When he wakes up he is unhappy to find that his opportunity to stay in the past has gone. Then the door opens and Marion, his wife, walks in with bags of groceries. They had been apart since their son died because they were unable to help each other through their grief. At one point we see Indy reading Separation Papers that she had served on him.
They (sort of, with roles switched) re-enacted a scene from "Raiders of the Lost Ark", ending with a kiss and embrace.
