Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Musician playing boss' secretary in comedy film "9 to 5".

Answer: Dolly Parton

Best known for her country music career (over 5,000 songs composed, over 1,000 songs recorded), Dolly Parton has also done some acting. Playing the character Doralee Rhodes, she also wrote the 1980 film's theme song. Starring alongside Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, the three workers dream of getting the better of their sexist and autocratic boss.

The film's success led to a five-season TV series of the same name and a musical stage adaptation.
2. "On Golden Pond" actress playing daughter to her real-life father.

Answer: Jane Fonda

This 1981 film saw Jane Fonda acting with her father Henry Fonda in his final film role. Her on-screen mother was Katharine Hepburn who won an Oscar for her acting, as did Henry Fonda in his role. The rights to the screenplay were bought by Jane Fonda with her father in mind. The on-screen father/daughter estrangement echoed their real life situation. A lifelong political activist, her acting career started in the late 1950s with stage work, leading to films then TV. She also became a fitness guru, making exercise videos for 30 years from the 1980s.
3. Austrian actor as Baron Bror Blixen in "Out of Africa".

Answer: Klaus Maria Brandauer

Bror von Blixen-Finecke was the real-life Swedish nobleman described in the autobiographical book "Out of Africa" by Isek Dinesen, pseudonym of the baron's wife Karen Blixen. Seven Oscars were awarded for this 1985 film. Beginning in the 1960s on stage and on TV, "Mephisto" (1981) started Brandauer's international career which included "Bond" movie "Never Say Never Again" (1983), "The Russia House" (1990) and "White Fang" (1991).

He is a bit of a polyglot.
4. "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" (1975) was this "Back to the Future" actor's film debut.

Answer: Christopher Lloyd

Playing Doc Brown in the trilogy starting with "Back to the Future" (1985), Lloyd is said to have taken inspiration from Albert Einstein and the conductor Leopold Stokowski, who was noted for his baton-free conducting style (waving his hands about). Best known for this role and that of Jim Ignatowski in the TV series "Taxi" (1978-83), his character Doc Brown was the inventor of the time machine built into the DeLorean gull-winged car.
5. Musician playing Auntie Entity, ruthless ruler of Bartertown in "Mad Max Beyond the Thunderdome".

Answer: Tina Turner

Tina Turner usually played herself in films so this 1985 film was a change and her only appearance in the "Mad Max" series. She also performed two songs: "One of the Living" during the opening credits and "We Don't Need Another Hero (Thunderdome)" over the end credits, the latter proving to be one of her best performing singles during her half-century singing career.
6. Comedienne who, along with Bette Midler, played two sets of twins in "Big Business".

Answer: Lily Tomlin

This 1988 comedy drew inspiration from Shakespeare's "Comedy of Errors", Aesop's "The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse" and Mark Twain's "The Prince and the Pauper". More recently Tomlin, who also appeared in the 1980 film "9 to 5" with Dolly Parton and Jane Fonda, appeared opposite Jane Fonda in the comedy TV series "Grace and Frankie", which ran for seven seasons from 2015.
7. Bodybuilding actor, last of a group of soldiers encountering an alien in "Predator" (1987).

Answer: Arnold Schwarzenegger

Initially gaining recognition as an Austrian bodybuilder, Schwarzenegger's breakthrough acting role was the 1982 film "Conan the Barbarian". He is probably best known for his role in the "Terminator" franchise, taking no part in the subsequent "Predator" franchise films. He turned politician latterly.
8. Dutch actor, leader of the replicants in "Blade Runner".

Answer: Rutger Hauer

Hauer was not auditioned as such for the role but chosen by the director Ridley Scott, based purely on his performances in three films by the Dutch film maker Paul Verhoeven. Hauer is also known for his "Tears in rain" death scene in "Blade Runner", which he partially rewrote to great effect. Perhaps his best known American film role.
9. Musician playing Feyd-Rautha, nephew to Baron Harkonnen in "Dune".

Answer: Sting

Known as Sting, Gordon Sumner was lead singer and songwriter for music band the Police until their break-up in 1986. As Feyd in this 1984 film version of the book, he plays a cruel and treacherous person, featuring heavily in Baron Harkonnen's plans and a foil to the main protagonist Paul Atreides. Sting did not contribute to the music soundtracks.
10. Bodybuilder actor as Darth Vader in "The Empire Strikes Back" (1980).

Answer: David Prowse

Masked by a helmet and voiced by James Earl Jones, Prowse played the role of Darth Vader in the first three of the "Star Wars" films made. Prowse was originally offered the Chewbacca role but turned it down. A former Olympic fencer did the lightsaber fight scenes and, as Prowse's English accent was deemed unacceptable, James Earl James did the speaking. Because of his habit of leaking information, Prowse was filmed declaring that Obi-Wan Kenobi was Luke's father, with James Earl Jones voicing the correct version during editing.
