The crew of the German U-boat U-96 endures the horrors and triumphs of the Battle of the Atlantic; elation when attacking convoys, sheer terror when under Allied attack. After a prolonged patrol, the boat is ordered to Italy, but they are nearly sunk near Gibraltar and barely make it back to their base in France, where an Allied air attack sinks the boat and kills many of the crew.

Warren Beatty wrote, directed, and stars in this film as American journalist John Reed, who chronicled the 1917 Russian Revolution in his book, "Ten Days that Shook the World". Diane Keaton plays his wife, fellow writer Louise Bryant. The film details their relationship, involvement in the labor movement, and their participation in the Communist revolt in Russia.

The Dark Age kingdom of Urland is terrorized by a dragon, who Urland's king appeases by sacrificing young women, chosen by lottery, to it. After his master, the Wizard Ulrich, is killed, apprentice Galen vows to kill the beast. The king's daughter rigs the lottery so that she is chosen as the next sacrifice, and the king hires Galen to kill the dragon.

Anthony Quinn stars as Libyan teacher Omar Al-Mukhtar, who is so successful at resisting Italian rule that the Italians send overwhelming forces against him and his men. Al-Mukhtar is eventually captured and hanged, but becomes a symbol of his country's fight for freedom. The film also stars Oliver Reed and Rod Steiger, and was partially funded by former Libyan dictator Moammar Khaddafi.

Merlin the Wizard uses magic to allow his lord Uther to sleep with the Duke of Cornwall's wife Igrayne. She gives birth to Arthur, whom Merlin takes as payment. When he is a young man, Arthur removes Excalibur from a stone, and becomes King. Arthur gathers the best knights and sends them to find the Grail, but he is betrayed by his wife Guinevere and friend Lancelot. Arthur then must battle his son (by half-sister Morgan La Fay) Mordred for the crown.

Rival Australian sprinters, (Mel Gibson, Mark Lee), travel to Perth to join the Army. Sent to the front on the Turkish peninsula of Gallipoli, the men endure the harsh conditions and dangers of the front. The film culminates with a fruitless attack on entrenched Turkish positions where most of the Australian units are wiped out.
