Elvis Presley-like American singer Nick Rivers is invited to perform at a cultural festival in East Germany. The festival is a cover for a plot to disable the NATO sub fleet and reunify Germany under Communist rule. Rivers meets a girl, rescues her scientist father, and thwarts the plot with the help of stereotypical "French Resistance" operatives from World War II films.

He escapes and encounters another faction of the Khmer Rouge. Pran becomes a servant for the camp leader, and manages to escape when the leader is killed in factional fighting. Pran survives great danger and unspeakable horror to make it to Thailand and freedom.
