Answer: The Last Starfighter

Robert Preston gives a memorable performance as the recruiter for a galactic war effort, using a video game on Earth to seek out someone who has the skills to run the controls of a starfighter vessel. Alex Rogan (Lance Guest) finds himself an unwilling starfighter, and the ONLY starfighter, left to battle evil. Young Mr. Guest does a remarkable job playing the Beta Alex, a doppelganger left to hide Alex's disappearance, who has a lot to learn about the human race.

Answer: Space Camp

A space summer camp allows a group of students to go onboard a space shuttle during test burn experiences. An accident occurs during the burn, forcing NASA to make the decision to lift-off, rather than lose everyone on board. Jinx, the "prototype maintenance droid" is wholly responsible for implausible plot that puts a group of summer camp students into orbit.

Answer: Armageddon

The Freedom and Independence are the two space shuttles which leave the U.S. on a mission to destroy a meteor hurtling towards Earth. With such stars as Bruce Willis, Billy Bob Thornton, Ben Affleck and Liv Tyler, it offers some pretty fantastic special effects.

While being strapped into the Freedom, Rockhound comments to the NASA technician, "It must be a comfort to know that if the space program goes under, you'll always have a job at Helga's House of Pain."

Answer: Alien

The first of six movies starring Sigourney Weaver as Ripley, this original movie takes the viewer through an array of shadows, dark tunnels, and terrifying deaths while battling a fantastic alien. In the end, only Ripley and her cat survive.

Answer: Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope

"Star Wars Episode IV" is the original movie that introduces us to the battles between Darth Vadar (using the Dark Side) and the Jedi knights (using the Force). Surely we all remember that famous battle, which ends with Luke Skywalker using the Force to target and destroy the Death Star in "Star Wars IV". "Star Wars III" shows the beginning of construction of the Death Star, but it is not in use yet.

In "Star Wars VI", a new, second Death Star is thought to be in the construction phase, but is found to be operational during the battle to destroy it.

Answer: Lost in Space

The Jupiter 2 houses the Robinson family, on their way to begin colonization of the planet Alpha Prime. However, the mission is sabotaged by Dr. Zachary Smith, who stows away on the vessel as it departs. The vessel crash-lands on an unchartered planet, where everyone on board must learn to survive together as a group.

Answer: Independence Day

"Independence Day" tells the story of an attack by an alien race on the planet Earth, culminating on the 4th of July. Mother Ship is a huge understatement for this vessel, which contains an entire world within it. According to President Whitemore, "They travel from planet to planet, their whole civilization. After they've consumed every natural resource they move on."

Answer: Space Cowboys

Tommy Lee Jones, Clint Eastwood, Donald Sutherland and James Garner play a group of former would-be astronauts, who win their chance to finally fly to space to repair a now archaic satellite system. A little background trivia: the four actors all appeared on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" to advertise the show, copying a scene from the movie in which the four astronauts appeared together on that same show.

Answer: Planet of the Apes

A true cinema classic, "Planet of the Apes" begins with a group of hibernating astronauts waking to find their craft has crashed. They are on a planet inhabited and ruled by apes, where humans are considered unintelligent animals. The astronauts battle for their lives, and only one escapes death or torture.

In the end, he is exiled to the Forbidden Zone, where the truth of the planet's origin is revealed.

Answer: Contact

Starring Jodie Foster and Matthew McConnaughey, and with a great supporting cast led by Tom Skerritt, "Contact" tells the story of Dr. Ellie Arroway, who discovers a signal coming to Earth from outer space. She finds, buried within the signal, blueprints for a spaceship.

The first Machine is built, but sabotaged and destroyed. A second Machine has been built by an eccentric billionaire, and Dr. Arroway is eventually taken on a journey in that craft.

Answer: The Right Stuff

This is the story of the American test pilots who became the original astronauts in the Mercury Project, "the Mercury Seven" (the name of the vessel and the nickname of the group of astronauts). Scott Carpenter, Gordon Cooper, John Glenn, Gus Grissom, Wally Schirra, Alan Shepard, and Deke Slayton were the astronauts with all "The Right Stuff".

Answer: Deep Impact

The Messiah is sent on a mission to destroy the comet that is hurtling towards Earth. Much like the movie "Armageddon",the crew is under orders to land on the offending rock and plant explosives. Their mission fails, and contact with Earth is cut off on the vessel.

The crew makes the decision to fly a suicide flight into the comet, destroying it with the remaining bombs on board. Robert Duvall delivers a stellar performance as Captain Fish Tanner, commander of the Messiah.

Answer: Mission to Mars

When the first manned flight to Mars ends in disaster, a second flight is dispatched to investigate the tragedy and return with survivors, if there are any. Their vessel, the Mars Recovery, is lost in Mars orbit, leaving its crew stranded. They are able to board the orbiting REsupply MOdule, although one astronaut's life is lost in doing so.

The crew takes the REMO to Mars' ground, and along with the sole survivor of the earlier mission, is able to find the secrets of the planet, while preparing for their return home.

Answer: The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" tells the story of Arthur Dent, a common man, who learns from his friend, Ford (who admits to being an alien), that the Earth is about to be destroyed. Arthur, Ford, and the love of Arthur's life escape Earth and make their way towards Earth II on the stolen spaceship, Heart of Gold.

This Sci-Fi comedic series was created by Douglas Adams, and has made its way from radio, to book, to television, to computer game, then to comic book before traversing to Hollywood.

Answer: WALL-E

The Axiom is the flagship of the fleet of luxury cruisers owned by BnL, to which the human race has been moved after the Earth has become too polluted to inhabit. WALL-E, the last working robot which was left behind to clean Earth, finds his way off of Earth to that vessel, in his quest to stay with EVE, a mission robot sent to find any sign of life on the planet.
