Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Fred Willard, Eugene Levy, and Catherine O'Hara

Answer: Best in Show (2000)

"Best in Show" is one of Christopher Guest's very funny mockumentaries - it tells multiple stories about dog owners competing in a major dog show. Fred Willard, as Buck Laughlin, is particularly funny as the "expert" commentator for the television broadcast. (His character was inspired by Joe Garagiola who famously provided clueless commentary for the Westminister Dog Show.) The ensemble cast includes several great character actors, including Jane Lynch, Jennifer Coolidge, Michael McKean, Eugene Levy and Catherine O'Hara.
2. Henry Fonda, Cliff Robertson, and Lee Tracy

Answer: The Best Man (1964)

"The Best Man", directed by Franklin J. Schaffner (who later won an Oscar for directing "Patton"), is a searing political drama about a pair of presidential candidates vying for a former president's endorsement. It's based on a Broadway play written by Gore Vidal. Lee Tracy played the former president (based on Harry Truman) in both the play and the film, and was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar.
3. Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, and Dev Patel

Answer: The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (2011)

"The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" is a popular comedy/drama starring several excellent British actors (e.g., Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Bill Nighy, Tom Wilkson, Penelope Wilton, Celia Imrie). When several retirees arrive at a retirement hotel in Jaipur, India, they're disappointed that it's run down, but young manager Dev Patel does his best to keep them happy.

The fun part is seeing the experiences of the retirees and how their relationships evolve. The film was so popular that a sequel, "The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel", was released four years later.
4. Fredric March, Dana Andrews, and Myrna Loy

Answer: The Best Years of Our Lives (1946)

"The Best Years of Our Lives" won seven Oscars in 1946, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Supporting Actor. It's the story of three World War Two veterans arriving home after the war and their difficulty adjusting back to civilian life.

In 1989, the film was one of the first 25 films selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the National Film Registry.
5. Mariel Hemingway, Scott Glenn, and Patrice Donnelly

Answer: Personal Best (1982)

"Personal Best" tells the story of two woman track stars (played by Mariel Hemingway and actual track star Patrice Donnelly) who fall in love. Their coach (played by Scott Glenn) thinks their relationship will affect their performance. "Personal Best" was directed and written by Robert Towne, better known for his Oscar-winning "Chinatown" screenplay.
6. Robin Williams, Kurt Russell, and Pamela Reed

Answer: The Best of Times (1986)

In "The Best of Times", a banker (Robin Williams) is still ashamed of the pass he dropped in an important high school football game 15 years earlier. He goes to great lengths to restage the game, including recruiting the team's star quarterback (Kurt Russell), now a van mechanic in town.

This comedy was directed by Roger Spottiswoode and written by Ron Shelton, who went on to write and direct several successful sports films, e.g., "Bull Durham", "White Men Can't Jump" and "Tin Cup".
7. Burt Reynolds, Dolly Parton, and Charles Durning

Answer: The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (1982)

"The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas", directed by Colin Higgins, is a musical comedy based on a 1978 Broadway hit. Burt Reynolds is the town sheriff, Dolly Parton runs the brothel named the Chicken Ranch, and Charles Durning is the state governor who has to decide if the brothel can stay open. Durning was nominated for Best Supporting Actor, but lost to Louis Gossett, Jr. (for "An Officer and a Gentleman").
8. Julia Roberts, Dermot Mulroney, and Cameron Diaz

Answer: My Best Friend's Wedding (1997)

Julianne (Julia Roberts) and her best friend Michael (Dermot Mulroney) had agreed they would get married at age 28 if they were still single. Julianne doesn't really want to, but then gets jealous when Michael decides to instead marry Kimberly (Cameron Diaz). She does everything she can to break off the wedding. P.J. Hogan directed from a script by Ronald Bass.
9. James Woods, Brian Dennehy, and Victoria Tennant

Answer: Best Seller (1987)

In "Best Seller", a career hitman (James Woods) tries to convince a best-selling author (Brian Dennehy) to tell his story. Things get complicated when the hitman's past associates grow concerned. It was directed by John Flynn and written by Larry Cohen, better known for horror films like "It's Alive", "It Lives Again" and "It's Alive III: Island of the Alive".
10. Taraji P. Henson, Sam Rockwell, and Wes Bentley

Answer: The Best of Enemies (2019)

"The Best of Enemies" is a true story about the battle between civil rights activist Ann Atwater (Taraji P. Henson) and Klu Klux Klan leader C.P. Ellis (Sam Rockwell) and how they eventually became friends. It was directed and written by Robin Bissell from a book by Osha Gray Davidson. Don't confuse this film with "Best of Enemies" from 2015, a documentary about the 1968 televised debates between Gore Vidal and William F. Buckley, Jr.
