An iconic film of the 1980s, 'Fatal Attraction' (1987) showed the nightmarish and inevitably tragic results when Michael, as Dan Gallagher, succumbed to the charms of Alex Forrest (Glenn Close) who then stalked him and his family.
2. An Ideal Homicide

This was a 1998 remake of Hitchcock's 'Dial M for Murder' in which Michael, as Steven Taylor, blackmailed his wife's lover to kill her, only to find that the best-laid plans can go disastrously astray.

'The In-Laws' (2003) showed CIA agent Steve Tobias (Michael) dragging mild and conventional Jerry Peyser (the father of his son's bride-to-be), played by Albert Brooks, into a series of improbable and hilarious adventures. After stumbling into one of Steve's spy missions at their first meeting, Jerry was determined to call off the wedding, but when their children were threatened, the two prospective in-laws united to divert a torpedo and blow up a submarine in Lake Michigan.

This 1985 film was a sequel to 'Romancing the Stone' and reunited Michael with Kathleen Turner, as Jack Colton and Joan Wilder. Joan was abducted in a Middle East country and Jack, along with his partner Ralph (Danny de Vito), tried to rescue her. They also wanted to find the 'jewel' which turned out to be very different from what they expected.

In 1995 Michael took on a totally different role from many of his previous films, that of the charming and successful President Andrew Shepherd.
