When Kostya is a young boy, he tries to hang himself with his jump rope because he says he is on "The better team to lose".
He loses at a big soccer game, and he believes it is all his fault.

A few years later he overdoses. It's said that it was in his blood, because the rest of his family have killed themselves aswell.

Eugene's band is going nowhere. So while putting on a horrible show, he pours his beer on his guitar, and shocks himself.

Eugene is the one with the car and Zia needs a ride to find his dead girlfriend Desiree. Eugene refuses to drive him, but Zia brings up a good point, Eugene really doesn't have anything else to do. All Eugene does is go to the bar and drink all day.

When Mikal was living she tried using drugs for the first time, and then overdosed.
There is a deleted scene in the special features where she says that it was her first time after Zia accuses her of being a junkie.

Eugene, and the rest of his family in the afterlife, are from Russia. You can tell by their accents.
It also shows this in the mother's suicide flashback. You can hear Eugene narrating, telling how his mother missed Russia, so she let herself die in the hospital.

In this afterlife there is no smiling, it is never confirmed why. In a scene you can see Mikal, Eugene and Zia trying to smile in the front mirror.

When they buy flowers for Desiree, all the bouquets are dead. So to make them more lively they spray paint them teal.
All the flowers are dead because, everything there is; it's an afterlife.

Answer: She wants to bring humor to the place.

Mikal just wants to bring some joy to this place, a place that is very dull. She wants people to have something funny in this place.

Answer: He catches a fish and is able to change it's colors.

In the suicide afterlife there are these things called miracles. Zia feels as if everyone has had one but him and he obsesses over haing one. He starts freaking out when Eugene changes his fish's color without even looking at it. Mikal clicks a button in Eugene's car and the lights turn on.

But he later finds out is that the miracles only happen when you least expect it, and they happen without you trying.

Answer: He goes through the black hole in Eugene's car.

In Eugene's beat up car, under the passenger seat, there is a "hole" - more like a black hole; once you drop something down there, forget it, you'll never get it back! So towards the end Zia gets depressed that Mikal is returning home, so to get away, he slides under the seat and into the black hole. He floats around for a while, and then wakes up in a hospital, alive, next to Mikal.
