Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What country is the main character, Peter Colt, from?

Answer: England

He is an ageing tennis player out for one last hurrah at the Wimbledon Grand Slam. Peter Colt is played by Paul Bettany.
2. The main female role, Lizzie Bradbury, is played by Kirsten Dunst. Who plays Lizzie's father?

Answer: Sam Neill

Dennis Bradbury is an overprotective father, who wants his daughter to win the championships and avoid any distractions. Lizzie's main distraction is that she likes to spend a lot of time with male tennis players, rather than having a good night's sleep before a match.
Sam Neill was born in Ireland of New Zealand heritage and has featured in other movies such as "Jurassic Park", "Bicentennial Man" and "The Piano".
3. What was the highest ranking Peter Colt had on the ATP tour rankings?

Answer: 11th

Peter was once ranked number 11 in the world "for the better part of 1996". There are funny scenes in the movie, when people he is talking to think that he was ranked as high as 13th or 17th. Peter yells at them that he was actually 11th.
4. Peter invites his family to come to Wimbledon and watch him play in which match?

Answer: Final

He does not invite them to his early matches, because he has a superstition that every time his mother comes to watch him at Wimbledon, he loses. He invites them to the final because win or lose, it will be his last professional match, as he is retiring after the tournament.
5. Who, out of Peter and Lizzie, makes the Wimbledon final?

Answer: Peter only

Peter wins his semi-final and Lizzie loses hers. For some reason, they are both played at the same time and on neighbouring outdoor courts. In the real Wimbledon, semi-finals are always played on Centre Court.
6. Does Peter win Wimbledon?

Answer: Yes

He beats Jake Hammond, a top-ranked younger player who seems to be one of Lizzie's ex-boyfriends. Jake leads the match two sets to love, but Peter makes a comeback when he sees Lizzie in the crowd, watching him play. Peter still retires from tennis but he's glad he doesn't have to accept the job of tennis professional at the country club.

He has enough money to have the option of doing something more enjoyable for himself.
7. Does Lizzie ever win Wimbledon?

Answer: Yes

At the end of the movie when Peter is speaking in a voiceover, he says that Lizzie won Wimbledon twice later in her tennis career.
8. How many children do Peter and Lizzie end up having?

Answer: Two, a boy and a girl

We see their children at the end of the movie when Peter and Lizzie are teaching them how to play tennis. They are at the old makeshift courts where Peter learnt how to play tennis.
9. Which real-life tennis player did NOT have any connection to the production of the movie?

Answer: Tim Henman

Pat Cash was the tennis consultant for the film. He helped train the actors so it would look like they really did know how to play tennis. Cash, an Australian, won Wimbledon in 1987.
Alun Jones played Peter's British rival Tom Cavendish. At the time the movie was made, Jones was a lowly-ranked Australian tennis player.
John McEnroe won many grand slams in his playing career and was an American commentator in the movie.
Tim Henman, at the time the movie was made, was the top-ranked Brit on the ATP rankings and took no part in the movie.
10. Some of the film was shot at the real Wimbledon tournament in 2003.

Answer: True

The shots that were taken include big crowd scenes when the players walk onto the courts before a match. This was the first time that film crews were ever allowed to film the Wimbledon tournament for a movie.
