Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The song itself was off a 1996 album called "What The Hell Happened To Me?" Where was the song originally performed?

Answer: Saturday Night Live

Sandler performed this song on Saturday Night Live claiming that "there are so many songs about Christmas, and not too many Chanukah songs, so I wrote a song for all those nice little Jewish kids who don't get to hear any Chanukah songs". This quote is actually on the record.
2. Who does Adam say "lights the Menorah"?

Answer: David Lee Roth

He started the list of "people who are Jewish just like you and me.. David Lee Roth lights the Menorah". He also list James Caan, Kirk Douglas and "the late Dinah Shore-ah".
3. Who are the two celebrities mentioned when he sings "Guess who eats together at the Carnegie Deli?"

Answer: Bowser from Shan-Na-Na and Arthur Fonzarelli

Its Bowser (Jon Bauman) and The Fonz (Henry Winkler) who can't escape their heritage.
4. "Paul Newman is half-Jewish, Goldie Hawn is too, put them together, what a ______ ______ Jew."

Answer: fine looking

He actually says this, much to the delight of the audiences.
5. What Chanukah activity can you do with Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock?

Answer: Spin A Dreidel

"You don't need "Deck The Halls" or "Jingle Bell Rock", cause you can spin a dreidel with Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock : both Jewish". (referring to William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy of 'Star Trek' fame)
6. Ann Landers and Dear Abby are mentioned in the song.

Answer: True

"We got Ann Landers and her sister Dear Abby" referring to the famous sisters, who were both sydicated advice columnist for many year, and appeared in hundreds of newspapers.
7. What does he say about Harrison Ford?

Answer: a quarter Jewish, not too shabby

Adam makes a slight error here since Ford is actually half Jewish. His mother is 100% Jewish, but this is a funny line anyway.
8. "Some people think that Ebenezer Scrooge is, well he's not but guess who is. All ...."

Answer: All Three Stooges

Moe, Larry and Shemp (Moe Howard, Shemp Howard and Larry Fine) were all Jewish, and when Shemp left the act in 1933, he was replaced by Curly (Jerome Howard). So I guess there were Four Stooges that were Jewish. Just one note. Curly had a stroke in 1946, so Shemp rejoined the act at that time.
9. There is a different version of the song which had to be slightly censored, that was used for the SNL broadcast which was different from the album cut. What was referenced that had to be changed?

Answer: Smoking Marijuana

On the album cut Adam sings "Drink your gin and tonic-ah, and smoke your marijuanic-ah", but on the SNL broadcast had had to say "DON'T smoke marajuanic-ah". Whatever the censors did that night, when you hear the song played these days, it is generally the uncut version that is broadcast on most airwaves.
10. Who is specifically targeted in the song as "not a Jew"?

Answer: O.J. Simpson

It was Simpson who was mentioned, fresh off his 1994 arrest and subsequent trial who was singled out by Sandler as "not a Jew". In his second Chanukah song, recorded in 1999 the reference to Simpson is there again, as "O.J. Simpson, still not a Jew". This line in the original song got one of the biggest audience responses of all the people mentioned.
Note: Sandler did Part 2 in 1999 and Part 3 in 2002 with other celebrities mentioned, but the song that you will hear 99% of the time is the original 1996 version.
