Asha Bhosle is the sister of legendary Indian singer Lata Mangeshkar. Asha made her film debut in 1943 at the age of 10 by singing a Marathi film song. Her first break in Bollywood was in 1948 in the movie 'Chunariya'. But it was O P Nayyar who was mainly responsible for giving her a platform to show her talents.

When the whole music industry was dominated by Lata Mangeshkar, Nayyar refused to use Lata's voice and instead gave Asha a chance. 'CID' (1956) was one of her first hits. The famous song "Leke Pehla Pehla Pyar" sung by Asha, Shamshad Begum and Mohd. Rafi is an all-time great. 'Naya Daur' (1957) saw a string of hits sung by Asha including "Saathi Haath Badana". "Nanhe Munne Bacche" is from RK Films' 'Boot Polish' and "Aiye Meherban" is from 'Howrah Bridge'.
