Answer: Chris Barber

Chris Barber was a superb frontman and trombone player. He toured with his band for years but was especially popular in the 50s and 60s' so called 'Trad Boom'.
2. Whose 'Stranger on the Shore' is still one of the best known British jazz standards?

Answer: Acker Bilk

'Acker' is colloquial Somerset dialect for 'mate' (or friend). His real name is Bernard Stanley Bilk. His distinctive clarinet is still sounding great.
3. Charlie Watts (yes, of Rolling Stones fame) is also a fine jazz drummer. Which of these piano players recorded with him and appeared at Ronnie Scott's Club?

Answer: Brian Lemon

Brian Lemon played with many visiting American stars as well. Benny Goodman, Charlie Shaves, Stuff Smith, Warren Vache, Scott Hamilton and many others. He no longer plays due to Rheumatoid Arthritis.
4. The great 'Humph' was Humphrey ...

Answer: Lyttelton

Humph was also a long time radio presenter on the iconic programme 'I'm sorry I Haven't a Clue' as well as numerous jazz programmes. He sadly passed away in 2008.

A fine player, he led many different line ups and worked endlessly in the cause of British jazz.

Ronnie Verrell is sadly another who is no longer with us. He died in 2002 following a bad fall.

Answer: Dave Holland

All the other three stayed at home. Dave Green played with many artistes including Charlie Watts. Len Skeate and Brian Prudence were also regulars in many of the best backing trios used by visiting American players.
