Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the missing word? "Divinity and ___ are forever forbidden to meet"

Answer: Lust

From "Lustmord and Wargasm" featured on the album "Cruelty and the Beast" released in 1998.

Lustmord in German means 'lust murder' while Wargasm is a term sometimes related to the the phrase "Make love, not war".
2. What Cradle song are these lyrics from? "Death, spirit me away, My anguished soul doth strains, On taut and twisted reins. Yet, insatiate I still remain"

Answer: Beauty Slept in Sodom

From the album "Dusk and her Embrace", featuring songs "Funeral in Carpathia" and "Heaven Tore Us Under".

Dani used iambic pentameter in this song, rhyming every other line.
Sometimes when I listen to this song i wonder how it's possible to create something so epic.
3. Fill in the missing lyric. "Medusa and ______"

Answer: Hemlock

"Medusa and Hemlock" is a song featured on the album "Nymphetamine", released in 2004.

Since Medusa was a gorgon of Greek mythology and Hemlock is a type of poison taken from a fern like plant, I think this is referring to the Paganistic use of mythology and poison potions.
4. What is the missing lyric from this Cradle cover? "Your life style to me seemed so ____ with the thrill of it all"

Answer: Tragic

"Mr. Crowley" is an Ozzy Osbourne song covered by Cradle of Filth for their 2004 album "Nymphetamine".

If you're going to cover a song, you should at least make it your own, and that's what Cradle of Filth did. I think its amazing; obviously its Ozzy who wrote the song, and it would've been easy for them to just play it the same way (apart from getting vocals close to Ozzy) and sound like any other band covering an Ozzy song. Cradle put their musical identity into the song, and make it sound completely different, while making it 'Filthy' for fans...
5. Which of these is NOT an instrumental?

Answer: Saffron's Curse

"Saffron's Curse" features on the album "Midian", and is personally one of my favorite CoF songs.

"Through arcades where shimmering snowfall,
Lay in state with the sad and damned.
A rent lament barely flung above a whisper,
Drew me like a ghost to the haunts of Man"
6. What is the missing lyric? "Fall for the love of me, crawl for the love of me, drool for the love of my virulent ___"

Answer: Sway

"Lilith Immaculate", from the 2011 album "Darkly Darkly Venus Aversa".

Lilith is the dark queen, she seduces guys and steals their souls, it gives her immortality. After searching long and hard for a new hostess body she finds the right dark swayed girl that reminds her of herself and through ritual takes over the other body. Lilith lives on.
7. "Even a man who is pure in the heart and speaks in prayer by night may become a wolf when the wolf's bane blooms and the winter moon is bright..." is featured in which Cradle of Filth song?

Answer: Queen of Winter, Throned

This song made the top 100 heavy metal songs at number 98, featuring on the album "V Empire".

It could be referring to Queen of Winter, Beira, or the Norse Goddess Skadi, or it could be a metaphor about a cold, malicious and beautiful woman. The sound at this beginning and that of 'A Dream of Wolves in Snow' suggests it has a Nordic connection and a winter themed one at that.
8. What is the missing word? "Led to other worlds by the girls she curled within I took their skins to see her be my, be my ______"

Answer: Mannequin

"Mannequin" from the album "Damnation and a Day".

Most of the "Damnation And A Day" album was based on "Paradise Lost", which was based on the fall of Lucifer and, through that, the fall of Man. Throughout the album, there are continual references to a woman but no name is given.
9. What is the missing lyric to this haunting song? "The moon, she hangs like a cruel portrait soft winds whisper the bidding of trees As this tragedy starts with a shattered glass heart and the mid nightmare trampling of ______"

Answer: Dreams

From "Her Ghost in the Fog" from the album "Midian".

Dani is singing about how the priests of the village killed his beautiful lover because they couldn't have her. While mourning her, the narrator finds the church bell tower key and takes revenge. He goes and lights the church on fire with all the parishioners inside and locks the door.
10. What is Cradle of Filth's 2010 album titled?

Answer: Darkly Darkly Venus Aversa

"Darkly Darkly Venus Aversa" is the ninth studio album released by Cradle of Filth. It was released on 1 November 2010 (UK) by Peaceville Records.

"Darkly, Darkly" will tell an original story. "It's about the resurgence of Lilith into modern society as a deity," Dani said. "There's a bit of Victorian in there. Essentially, at heart, it's a nice Gothic horror story."
