Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Is this primarily an English-language album?

Answer: Yes

Out of the thirteen songs, ten are in English: "Silent Night", "Little Drummer Boy", "I'll Be Home For Christmas", "Angels We Have Heard On High", "Thankful", "The Christmas Song", "What Child Is This", "The First Noel", "It Came Upon A Midnight Clear" and "O Come All Ye Thankful".

"Greensleeves" ("What Child Is This") is one of Josh's all-time favorite songs, and he and David Foster strove to make it have a different sound with a different arrangement. Lucia Micarelli, featured on several of his past hits, played the violin for "What Child Is This".
2. What is the name of the French song on the album?

Answer: Petit Papa Noel

"Petit Papa Noel," which translates to mean "little father Christmas," is the only song on the album in French. "Ave Maria" and "Panis Angelicus" are both in Latin. "Panis Angelicus" translates to mean "Bread Of Angels," while "Ave Maria" translates as "Hail Mary." "The First Noel" is sung in English. Only the word "noel" is French in "The First Noel."
3. Which song features Faith Hill?

Answer: The First Noel

Faith Hill joins Josh in his rendition of "The First Noel." While he sings with several musicians in other songs, the only duet in the songs I've given is with her. "The First Noel" also features a gospel choir.
4. Was a special edition of "Noel" containing a DVD with the making of the album available at any time?

Answer: yes

According to his fansite, www.friendsofjoshgroban.com, there are several different ways to buy "Noel." When it was first released in October 2007, you could buy just the album, you could buy the album plus a collector's ornament (only available through the Fan Club Store,) or you could buy the CD plus DVD (available only through Target stores.)
5. Which Tabernacle Choir joins Josh in his rendition of "O Come All Ye Faithful"?

Answer: Mormon

The Mormon Tabernacle Choir joins Josh only for the song "O Come All Ye Faithful." Other choirs, such as the Magdalen College Choir, help Josh along with other songs, such as "Silent Night" and "Ave Maria." Some other choirs and orchestras featured are the London Philharmonic and the African Children's Choir.
6. Is the song "O Holy Night" on this album?

Answer: No

Unfortunately, he didn't include "O Holy Night." It was previously released on another CD, as part of the "Josh Groban in Concert" DVD. While the song "I'll Be Home For Christmas" was previously heard by Grobanites, it was included on "Noel."
7. In the "Thank You" part of the liner notes, does he thank his dog, Sweeney?

Answer: Yes

While it's hard to make out in the gold print on red background, clearly written is "To my beautiful and loving family: Mom, Dad, Chris, Grandma Evy, Gaga, Sweeney." Sweeney is the name of his Wheaten Terrier, whom he took on part of his "Awake" tour. Sweeney was also featured in the "Making of Noel." Groban tries to spend every Christmas with his family.
8. Which of these songs features a guitarist?

Answer: Little Drummer Boy

"The Little Drummer Boy" features guitarist Andy McKee. Josh found Andy via Youtube, a popular website devoted to videos. They wanted Andy because of the rhythmic style that Andy played. The London Symphony Orchestra was the orchestra featured.

In the song "It Came Upon A Midnight Clear", Josh played the piano with the help of David Foster, trying to gain a new and different version of the classic song.
9. Does Brian McKnight sing with Josh Groban on any song of this album?

Answer: Yes

The talented singer/songwriter Brian McKnight is featured on the song "Angels We Have Heard On High." During the recording of "Angels We Have Heard On High," Josh was sick in London with a cold. David Foster, his producer, thought that the cold gave him a different, but good, sound. He called it a "timbre" while Josh called it "phlegm."
10. What does "Noel" mean?

Answer: Christmas

The word "Noel" means Christmas in French, so when the song "The First Noel" is sung, what's really being sung is "The First Christmas." While recording this in June in Los Angeles, they decorated his recording studio for Christmas, complete with a small Christmas tree. The only problem with recording Christmas music and the Christmas decorations was that it made Josh yearn for Christmas even more.

All of the information came from the CD itself and the "Making of Noel" video.
