Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:
I would say the majority of people will know the song "Never Been to Spain" by Three Dog Night. However, it was originally released by Hoyt Axton who wrote the song and released on his 1971 LP "Joy to the World". Cory Wells was the lead singer in the version by Three Dog Night.
Hoyt Axton was an American singer-songwriter who rose to fame in the 1960s. Notable songs from Axton were "Joy to the World", "The Pusher", "No No Song", and of course "Never Been to Spain". If you have watched the film "Easy Rider" released in 1969 you would have heard the song "The Pusher" performed by Steppenwolf.
Three Dog Night is an American rock band formed in 1967. The band achieved their greatest success between 1967 and 1975, with 12 consecutive Gold Albums. The song "Never Been to Spain" was on the band's seventh album, "Harmony," released in 1971. The lineup of the band was Michael Allsup, Jimmy Greenspoon, Danny Hutton, Chuck Negron, Joe Schermie, Floyd Sneed, and Cory Wells.
The band was formerly known as Redwood. It has been suggested they changed their name after reading an article about how Australian Aborigines used to sleep with their dogs to stay warm on chilly nights-the coldest of which was a "three-dog night."
