Question 1 of 10
1. Ricky Rockstar has an unrivaled passion for music, particularly when he can see the artists create that music in front of him. He will stop at nothing to be in attendance at the hottest events. For instance, in 1997 Ricky heard that one of his favorite artists were to appear at the Blockbuster Rockfest event way down in Texas. After loading up his 1964 Volkswagen Minibus (complete with paintings of daisies, smiley faces and even a portrait of Jerry Garcia) he pointed his compass south to the great state of Texas. To which destination did Ricky arrive to see the likes of No Doubt, Jewel, Matchbox 20 and Counting Crows? Hint

Question 2 of 10
2. Way back when Ricky Rockstar was just a young fellow, and his VW Minibus was relatively new, he attended an event so spectacular that it would forever alter his life's course. The Woodstock Music and Art Fair was held in the sleepy town of Bethel, New York between August 15-19, 1969 on a 600 acre dairy farm. Which generous dairy farmer lent his land to be used to host this incredible concert event? Hint

Question 3 of 10
3. Ricky Rockstar heads to Canada. The year was 2003 and Ricky received word that the progressive rock band Rush, one of his favorite acts of all time, would be performing in their home city of Toronto for a major musical occurrence known as the Molson Canadian Rocks for Toronto. The concert wasn't just to assemble the largest group of people ever in Canada, it was being held to raise money for the city and raise awareness for a terrible illness that had gripped the city. Which illness was it? Hint

Question 4 of 10
4. "Oh happy days" Ricky Rockstar hummed to himself when he heard that his all-time favorite singing duo was going to unite for a one night performance. Plus, it would be an excuse to fire up the old VW bus for another road trip. When Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel decided to reunite for a show on September 19, 1981, they were sure to draw a crowd, especially when it was announced the show would be performed for free. Ricky Rockstar was thrown yet into another crowd of approximately half a million people while he listened to his favorite songs like "Homeward Bound" and "The Boxer". In which park did Ricky witness this reunion? Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. Ricky Rockstar loved to travel to events by plane, and when he decided to attend the Isle of Wight Festival in 1970, he got that opportunity. Packing his bags and leaving on August 25, 1970, Ricky departed for his trip across the pond to enjoy five days of incredible performances by acts such as Chicago, Joan Baez, Jimi Hendrix and even a jazz musician. Which legendary jazz artist played at the Isle of Wight Festival in 1970? Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. Ricky Rockstar was thinking back to the concerts he had attended when he suddenly realized that he once saw The Grateful Dead, The Allman Brothers and The Band at some point during the summer of 1973. Ricky wondered about the other 600,000 people he was there with that day and what may have become of them. In which New York town did this Summer Jam take place? Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. The US Festival was held in California on two different occasions. Once was during Labor Day Weekend of 1982 (September 3-5, 1982) and again on Memorial Day Weekend of 1983 (May 28-30, 1983). The second of the two events featured musical acts grouped by genre performing on each day. There was a new wave day, a rock day and a heavy metal day. As an added bonus, there was even a country day added the next week. Which American mogul financed these events, losing an estimated 20 million dollars for his efforts? Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. Ricky Rockstar is no fan of country music, but when he heard that Garth Brooks was giving a free concert in New York's Central Park, he felt the urge to travel. Once again packing up the VW Minibus, and this time he included a bona fide Stetson cowboy hat and some footwear from the Dan Post Boot Company, he heads off to the big city. After settling in about half a mile from the stage ("Thank goodness for big screen concert monitors", Ricky says to himself) Ricky was delighted when Garth welcomes a guest to the stage. Which legendary New Yorker performed with Mr. Brooks that night? Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. Ricky Rockstar was a throwback to the hippie days of peace, love and rock and roll, but he didn't mind some newer alternative rock music. That's why he was thrilled when he heard that Jane's Addiction lead singer, Perry Farrell, was going to organize a new music festival. The year was 1991 and Ricky was distraught over all the pop, dance music and hip hop that had become so popular, so when he found out that Lollapalooza was going to tour North America, he made preparations to be in attendance at a show or two. Eventually the event went from a touring event to a single city attraction spanning several days and featuring an increased line up of bands. Which US city has hosted the festival since 2005? Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. Quite possibly the largest concert crowd ever assembled was on Copacabana Beach in Brazil on December 31, 1994. An estimated three and a half million people attended this show, and you can surely bet Ricky Rockstar had to be a part of that. Which artist took the "Downtown Train" to the beach that night to spend the evening celebrating with millions of his fans? I'm sure there were plenty of ladies there with "Hot Legs" for Ricky to ogle during the show. Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Ricky Rockstar has an unrivaled passion for music, particularly when he can see the artists create that music in front of him. He will stop at nothing to be in attendance at the hottest events. To which destination did Ricky arrive to see the likes of No Doubt, Jewel, Matchbox 20 and Counting Crows?

Answer: Texas Motor Speedway

On June 21, 1997, an approximated crowd of 385,000 people took to the Texas Motor Speedway for a one day concert festival which saw 16 bands take to the stage for an electrifying event. In addition to those listed above, other bands included Bush, Collective Soul and The Wallflowers.

The night before the concert, a pre-concert party was hosted by VH1 for all of the attendees who arrived a little early.

Answer: Max Yasgur

Interestingly, one of the most notorious performances of the Woodstock festival was Jimi Hendrix playing his rendition of "The Star Spangled Banner". However, because Hendrix was the last performer of the festival, only a handful of people (approximately 30,000 out of the original nearly half million) had stuck around to hear it.
All of the incorrect answers should sound familiar as they were all performers at the festival. Alvin Lee was a member of Ten Years After, Levon Helm appeared with The Band and Leslie West was the frontman for Mountain.
Max Yasgur was the man who helped make the concert a possibility when he lent the use of one his fields for the show. The act of kindness sort of backfired on Mr. Yasgur as he fell out of favor with the local townsfolk and he eventually had to disband and sold the farm and head south to Florida. Unfortunately, just a year and a half after the festival, Max Yasgur died of a hear attack at his Florida home.

Answer: SARS

The Rolling Stones were pivotal in organizing in huge event sometimes known either as SARS-stock or SARS-apalooza. The city of Toronto, along with much of Asia, had been hit hard with outbreaks of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and tourism had slowed tremendously.

The Rolling Stones wanted to give the city a boost, so they helped putting the concert together. Hosted by Dan Aykroyd, the concert featured several great acts such as Rush, Justin Timberlake, AC/DC and even The Guess Who. The huge undertaking was a great success and the boost to the economy was greatly needed. You may have seen Ricky Rockstar at the event, he was the old hippie with the surgical mask covering his long gray beard!

Answer: New York's Central Park

Although this reunion was not the first time the duo appeared together on stage after their 1970 breakup, it was certainly the biggest event of their career. The concert was held at New York's Central Park and was attended by approximately 500,000 fans. An audio recording of the concert was released as a live album while HBO released a video of the event. Simon and Garfunkel's cover of "Wake Up Little Susie" was released as a single from the live album.

Answer: Miles Davis

This event was not only memorable for the 600,000 people who attended it, but it also was one of the last live performances of Jimi Hendrix's all too brief career. Hendrix would pass away just two and a half weeks after his appearance at the festival.
Miles Davis was an interesting inclusion in the festival. He came prepared to wow the audience though and he even assembled a who's who list of musicians to perform with. Chick Corea, Keith Jarrett, Airto Moreira and Dave Holland were featured musicians in his band that day.

Answer: Watkins Glen

It has been estimated that when the throng of concert goers converged on Watkins Glen, New York, one out of 350 Americans were represented at the show. The Watkins Glen Grand Prix Raceway hosted the huge crowd on July 28, 1973. Some of the three band's performances were recorded and released on live record albums.

The Grateful Dead released a five disc compilation titled "So Many Roads (1965-1995)" in 1999. The Band released "Live at Watkins Glen" in 1995. The album featured ten songs from their performance including two Bob Dylan tunes titled "I Shall be Released" and "Don't Ya Tell Henry".

The Allman Brothers included their song "Come and Go Blues" which was recorded at this concert on their live album "Wipe the Windows, Check the Oil, Dollar Gas".

Many people have complained that this album pales in comparison to their classic "Live at Fillmore East", but some of the tracks, including the one recorded in Watkins Glen, are very good.

Answer: Steve Wozniak

Steve Wozniak made his fortune as an early founder of Apple Computers. The US Festival was to be an event to tie together music, computers and technology. The first US Festival featured acts as diverse as The Ramones, The Police, Santana, Tom Petty, Jimmy Buffet, The Grateful Dead and Fleetwood Mac.

The second festival featured daily music themes. The first day featured new wave acts like A Flock of Seagulls, Men at Work and The Clash. The second day was all about the heavy metal. Acts like Quiet Riot, Van Halen, Motley Crue, Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest and The Scorpions performed.

The third day was straight ahead rock and roll. U2, David Bowie, Stevie Nicks and Joe Walsh all performed that day. The bonus country day, held on Saturday, June 4, saw Alabama, Willie Nelson, Ricky Skaggs and Hank Williams Jr. take the stage.

Answer: Billy Joel

Garth Brooks took to the stage in Central Park on August 7, 1997. The estimates for the attendance numbers are anywhere between 750,000 and one million people. Either way, needless to say, there were lots of cowboys hats in the city that night. Billy Joel and Don McLean were guests of Garth Brooks that night. Imagine a million people strong singing along to "American Pie". That could probably be heard for miles and miles away.

The crowd erupted when Billy Joel was brought out on stage to perform the songs "Ain't Going Down ('Til the Sun Comes Up)" and "New York State of Mind". Mr. Joel was once again brought on stage during the encore and the pair played the Joel hit "You May be Right" to close out the concert.

Answer: Chicago

Chicago's Grant Park is where the event is now held. An international event was added in Santiago, Chile beginning for 2011. Over the years, Lollapalooza has featured artists from several different genres, and even other cultural and political activists.

There have even been comedians taking the stage to entertain the crowds. Ricky Rockstar's favorite year for Lollapalooza was back in 1993 when Primus, Alice in Chains, Tool, Rage Against The Machine, Arrested Development and Fishbone were all there.

Answer: Rod Stewart

According to "The Guinness Book of World Records" Stewart holds the distinction of having played in front of the largest audience. Three and half million people showed up for the free show, but that number has varied from as little as one million or as many as five million. Regardless of the exact number, that's a whole bunch of folks on the beach. Copacabana Beach has been the host of several large scale concerts.

The Rolling Stones wanted to break Rod Stewart's concert attendance record at Copacabana Beach, but missed the mark by approximately two million people. Lenny Kravitz performed in front of 300,000 people there in 2005. Elton John played two concerts at the beach, once in 2006 and again the following year.

Interestingly enough, Ricky Rockstar was attendance at all of these shows.
