Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:

Stevie Ray Vaughan was born in Dallas, Texas in 1954, and is considered by many to be one of the greatest electric guitarists of all time. Stevie played at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1982, and David Bowie happened to be in attendance. Bowie recruited Vaughan to play on his 1983 album, "Let's Dance". This gave Vaughan more public attention, and his first album "Texas Flood" was released in 1983, with his backing band, Double Trouble, consisting of bass player Tommy Shannon, and drummer Chris "Whipper" Layton.

Vaughan would then go on to release three more studio albums with Double Trouble before his untimely death in 1990 when he was killed in a helicopter crash after playing a live gig in Wisconsin with Eric Clapton, Robert Cray, Buddy Guy, and his brother Jimmie Vaughan. Stevie was a few weeks shy of turning 36 years old.

- The songs "Texas Flood" and "Pride and Joy" are featured on Stevie's debut album "Texas Flood" in 1983. In my opinion, Stevie Ray's songs were better live than in studio, and his version of "Texas Flood" at "Live at the El Mocambo", which he played in 1983 is worth checking out.

-"Scuttle Buttin"' is an instrumental written by Vaughan, and is featured on his second studio album, "Couldn't Stand the Weather", which was released in 1984. "Cold Shot" is also featured on the album, and a music video was filmed, which humorously features Stevie Ray as a man more devoted to his guitars than his girlfriend.

- Vaughan released the album "Soul to Soul" in 1985, and it includes the songs "Life Without You", "Change It", and "Look at Little Sister". Vaughan released a live album entitled "Live Alive" in 1986, but took three years off recording another album, after having to be hospitalized during a tour in Germany due to a substance abuse problem. Vaughan was able to kick his drug and alcohol habit, and got sober later that year, and remained sober until the day he died.

- Vaughan's final studio recording that was released during his lifetime was the 1989 album "In Step", which he titled due to his newfound sobriety, and his use of the 12-step program of Alcoholics Anonymous. It features the songs "Crossfire", "Tightrope", "The House Is Rockin', and "Riviera Paradise", an instrumental written by Vaughan. Stevie also played at Austin City Limits in 1989, and it was released on video, entitled "Live from Austin, Texas". I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to listen to Stevie's music. I think he was at his absolute peak that night. His live performances of "Crossfire" and "Tightrope" are especially enrapturing to me, and I think they are both much better than the studio recordings.

Following his death, the 1991 album "The Sky Is Crying" was released, which featured unreleased songs he recorded in the 1980s. Along with the song of the same name, the album features an instrumental recording of Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing" which is worth checking out.
