Don Partridge was having his "Breakfast On Pluto" in 1969. It reached number 26 on the UK chart but it never charted in the US. Don Partridge was a one-man band busker before his three UK hits and then went back to busking afterwards.

"Man On The Moon" was by R.E.M and reached number 18 on the UK chart in 1992. The song (a tribute to the late Andy Kaufman) reached number 30 on the US pop chart in 1993. "Starman" was by David Bowie and reached number ten on the UK chart in 1972, it only reached number 65 on the US pop chart. "Sun King" by the Cult reached number 39 on the UK chart in 1989, it never charted in the US.
