Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "I'm Right Here"
Answer: Samantha Mumba
Samantha Mumba is an Irish musician who found success in the pop and R&B genres. She was managed from an early age by music industry insider Louis Walsh. She became better known to the world with her single "Gotta Tell You", released in 2000. She also starred in the 2002 film "The Time Machine", in which her real-life brother Omero played her character's brother.
"I'm Right Here" was released as a single on August 2002 and reached high positions in British and Irish charts. Singer Bob Marley was featured in the music video.
2. "Little by Little"
Answer: Oasis
"Little by Little" was released as a single by the British band Oasis in September 2002. The song was written by Noel Gallagher and obtained a BPI Platinum certification in the U.K. "Little by Little" was part of the band's fifth studio album, "Heathen Chemistry", which also included other successful hits like "Stop Crying Your Heart Out" and "She Is Love".
Unfortunately, Liam and Noel Gallagher could not reconcile their differences and disbanded Oasis in 2009.
3. "New Direction"
Answer: S Club Juniors
The S Club Juniors were born out of the reality show "S Club Search". The group ended up being composed of Jay Asforis, Daisy Evans, Calvin Goldspink, Stacey McClean, Aaron Renfree, Hannah Richings, Frankie Sandford, and Rochelle Wiseman. The group released "New Direction" as a single in October 2002.
The single made it all the way to the second position on the UK and Scotland OCC charts.
4. "Dilemma"
Answer: Nelly ft. Kelly Rowland
Nelly released "Dilemma" in June 2002 as part of his second studio album, "Nellyville". The rapper's song also featured the former member of Destiny's Child, Kelly Rowland, and the latter sang the catchy lyrics: "no matter what I do, all I think about is you". The track also made it into Rowland's debut solo studio album, "Simply Deep".
5. "The Land of Make Believe"
Answer: Allstars
"The Land of Make Believe" was not an original Allstars song, but rather, it was a cover of the 1981 single by Bucks Fizz. Even though the cover barely made it into the top ten of U.K. charts, the band, consisting of Sam Bloom, Thaila Zucchi, Ashley Taylor Dawson, Rebecca Hunter, and Sandi Lee Hughes, was dropped by their record label Island given that none of their other singles were commercially successful.
6. "Lovin' Is Easy"
Answer: Hear'Say
Hear'Say was a musical group that was born in the reality TV show "Popstars". Their debut album, also called "Popstars", contained two of their successful singles: "Pure and Simple" and "The Way to Your Love." Unfortunately, after selling a million copies of their debut album, they struggled to repeat that success. "Lovin' Is Easy", a non-album single, was released in August 2002 and reached the sixth position on U.K. charts.
However, the band decided to split up just months later.
7. "Just Like a Pill"
Answer: Pink
Pink, whose real name is Alecia Beth Moore, is an American singer who found great success in the 2000s and 2010s decades. Her first studio album, "Can't Take Me Home", sold millions of copies. "Just Like a Pill" was released as a single on June 2002, though it was part of the album "Missundaztood" that was released a year before.
The song was very successful and became Pink's first U.K. chart-topping single.
8. "Starry Eyed Surprise"
Answer: Oakenfold
English producer Paul Oakenfold, who then went only by his last name, released the single "Starry Eyed Surprise" in August 2002. The lyrics were sung by Crazy Town's Shifty Shellshock. Even though the song peaked at number six on the UK Singles OCC charts, it did make it to the top of the UK Indie OCC charts.
9. "Without Me"
Answer: Eminem
Eminem is an American rapper who has won more than ten Grammy Awards. His real name is Marshall Mathers. He released "Without Me" as a single in May 2002, which was also included in his fourth studio album, "The Eminem Show". The song made it to the top positions on several charts, including the UK Singles OCC chart and the US Mainstream Top 40 Billboard chart.
The song's music video, which featured Eminem and Dr. Dre parodying Batman and Robin, won a Grammy for Best Music Video.
10. "Strange & Beautiful (I'll Put A Spell On You)"
Answer: Aqualung
Aqualung, whose real name is Matthew Nicholas Hales, was known in the early 2000s for writing all of his lyrics and music by himself. His debut album, "Aqualung", was released in September 2002. A month before, he had released the single "Strange & Beautiful (I'll Put A Spell On You)", which was used in a commercial by the car company Volkswagen.
