It debuted on Eddie Cantor's Thanksgiving show. Eddie Cantor's career saw him working in vaudeville, as a singer and songwriter, a comedian and an author. He worked in radio, motion pictures and in early television shows.
One of the songs he cowrote, "Merrily We Roll Along" is best remembered as the theme song for Warner Brothers "Merry Melodies" cartoon series.
Cantor also coined the name "March of Dimes" and opened the first "March of Dimes" campaign in January 1938 by asking his radio listeners to send a dime to President Franklin Roosevelt, (who was a victm of polio). The White House received 2,680,000 dimes as a result of the broadcast.
