Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. George Alexander Louis

Answer: Charles Philip Arthur George

On the death of Queen Elizabeth II on 8 September 2022, her eldest son, Charles Philip Arthur George, became King Charles III. Charles was born at Buckingham Palace on 14 November 1948 and married Diana Frances Spencer, born 1 July 1961, on 29 July 1981. Together they had two sons, William and Harry. Charles and Diana's children and grandchildren are listed below according to the Line of Succession.

William Arthur Philip Louis, born on 21 June 1982, at St Mary's Hospital in London is their oldest child and thus first in line to the throne. He married Catherine (Kate) Elizabeth Middleton on 29 April 2011 at Westminster Abbey. Their marriage has produced three of King Charles III grandchildren - George, Charlotte and Louis.

Born 22 July 2013 at St Mary's Hospital in London, George Alexander Louis is William and Catherine's eldest child and second in line to the throne. His names are all from his family members. There are 6 previous kings named George - the last being the Queen's father, her middle name was Alexandra, and the name Louis is from his father.

George was christened by the Archbishop of Canterbury at the Chapel Royal in St James's Palace, London, on 23 October 2013. One of the photos from the event includes the Queen, Charles, William and George - the first time since Queen Victoria that a monarch and three generations of heirs were alive at the same time.

George made his first royal tour at only 9 months when his parents took him to Australia and New Zealand. His first public appearance was on the balcony at Buckingham Palace following the 2015 Trooping the Colour. This is where many of the young royals have made their first official debut. He took part in his great-grandmother's Platinum Jubilee celebrations and was also a page of honour at his grandfather's coronation.
2. Charlotte Elizabeth Diana

Answer: Charles Philip Arthur George

William and Catherine's second child, Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, was born on 2 May 2015, also at St Mary's, London. Until the "Succession to the Crown Bill 2013 Act" she would have had to give up her position in line to any younger male siblings, but it came into effect before her birth so she will maintain her position, which is presently third, in line. When, or if, George marries and produces heirs they will come above her, but she will always rank above Louis.

Charlotte's christening was on 5 July 2015 at St Mary Magdalene Church on the Queen's Sandringham Estate where her late grandmother Diana was baptised in 1961. She was also named after Diana and the Queen, while Charlotte is the feminine form of her grandfather, Charles. Catherine's middle name is also Elizabeth. Charlotte made her first official appearance on the balcony at the Trooping the Colour in 2016, and her first overseas visit occurred the same year when the family visited Canada.
3. Louis Arthur Charles

Answer: Charles Philip Arthur George

The youngest of William's family is Louis Arthur Charles, fourth in line, also born at St Mary's Hospital on 23 April 2018. He was christened on 9 July 2018 by the Archbishop of Canterbury in the Chapel Royal at St James's Palace. In keeping with royal tradition, all William and Catherine's children have 3 names.

He shares the name Louis with his brother, George, and his father. The name entered the family line to honour Louis Mountbatten, the uncle of the Queen's husband, Prince Philip. Arthur is also a family name with both William and King Charles having it as a middle name.

On the flip side of Charlotte's first in history, Louis is the first British prince to be ranked behind an elder sister. His Trooping the Colour debut was in 2019.
4. Archie Harrison

Answer: Charles Philip Arthur George

After William and Kate's children we move back up the line to Charles III's second son, Henry (Harry) Charles Albert David, who was born on 15 September 1984 at St Mary's and is fifth in the line of succession.

He married Rachel Meghan Markle, born 4 August 1981, on 19 May 2018 at St. George's Chapel, Windsor. Their marriage has produced the other 2 of King Charles III grandchildren - Archie and Lillibet.

Sixth in line is Archie Harrison, born in Portland Hospital, London, on 6 May 2019. He was baptised by the Archbishop of Canterbury on July 6, 2019, in the Chapel of Windsor Castle. His names have no royal connections, although Harrison does literally mean 'Harry's son', which is the name Henry has used since birth.

Unlike the usual 'hospital steps' baby introduction and photos the first views of Archie were in a private photo call 2 days after his birth. His first (and last) royal engagement was during an overseas visit to Africa at 4 months of age. Four months later his parents decided to withdraw from royal duties and eventually made the move to California.
5. Lilibet Diana

Answer: Charles Philip Arthur George

Lilibet Diana was born 4 June 2021 at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, California. She was christened in the Episcopal Church, a province of the Anglican Church, in a private service at her parents' home on 3 March 2023 by the Bishop of Los Angeles.

Her name is a tribute to her late grandmother, Diana, and the Queen, who was called Lilibet as a child. The two only met once when Harry and Meghan returned to the UK for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations in 2022.

Seventh in line, she completes King Charles III's immediate family line so it then reverts back to Queen Elizabeth II's next heir. Princess Ann is her next eldest child but those earlier primogeniture laws put her younger brothers before her.
6. Sienna Elizabeth

Answer: Andrew Albert Christian Edward

Andrew Albert Christian Edward, born 19 February 1960 at Buckingham Palace, London, is eighth in line. He married Sarah Margaret Ferguson, born 15 October 1959, on 23 July 1986 at Westminster Abbey, and the couple have two daughters - Beatrice and Eugenie.

As the eldest, Beatrice Elizabeth Mary, born at Portland Hospital, London, on 8 August 1988, is in position nine in the hierarchy. She married Edoardo Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi, born 19 November 1983, on 17 July 2020 at Royal Chapel of All Saints, Royal Lodge, in Windsor. They have 1 daughter named Sienna who is Andrews's second grandchild.

Sienna Elizabeth was born at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London on 18 September 2021, making her tenth in line to the throne. Beatrice and Edoardo celebrated their daughter's christening during a private ceremony at the Chapel Royal at St James's Palace in London on 28 April 2022.

Sienna received her name because of her Italian heritage and her mother and grandmother's red hair. Her father is descended from the aristocracy, so in Italy mother and daughter are known as Contessas. Her parents have chosen to keep her out of the limelight, so no official appearances have been made.
7. August Philip Hawke

Answer: Andrew Albert Christian Edward

Eleventh position goes back up the line to Andrews's second daughter, Eugenie Victoria Helena, born 23 March 1990 at Portland Hospital in London. She married Jack Christopher Stamp Brooksbank, born 3 May 1986, on 12 October 2018 at St. George's Chapel, Windsor. Their marriage has produced the other 2 of Andrews's grandchildren - August and Ernest, twelfth and thirteenth respectively.

August Philip Hawke was born 9 February 2021, also at Portland Hospital in London. August was christened alongside his second cousin Lucas Tindall on 21 November 2021 at Royal Chapel of All Saints in Windsor, England.

August was the second name of Queen Victoria's husband, Prince Albert. The name Philip is after the Queen's husband and Hawke is an ancestral name of the Brooksbanks. August made his royal debut the next June during the Platinum Jubilee Pageant.
8. Ernest George Ronnie

Answer: Andrew Albert Christian Edward

Ernest George Ronnie was born 30 May 2023 at Portland Hospital in London. Ernest is the first posthumous great-grandchild of the Queen, and thus is the first to be born during the reign of King Charles III. I have included him because with her death on 8 September and his estimated conception of Aug 29, 2022 - Sep 13, 2022 there is a possibility that he was conceived during her lifetime.

Ernest is named after a number of ancestors. There are a few royal Georges, but George VI was also named Ernest. His paternal grandfather is also a George and Ronnie is after his maternal great grandfather.

That completes Prince Andrews's line, so we move back up to Queen Elizabeth II's next heir.
9. Savannah Anne Kathleen

Answer: Anne Elizabeth Alice Louise

Edward Antony Richard Louis, fourteenth in line, was also born at Buckingham Palace on 10 March 1964. He married Sophie Helen Rhys-Jones, born 20 January 1965, on 19 June 1999 at St. George's Chapel, Windsor. They have two children in line to the throne, but no grandchildren at this time. Their eldest child is Louise Alice Elizabeth Mary, born 8 November 2003 at Frimley Park Hospital in Surrey. Because of male primogeniture laws she is behind her younger brother, James Alexander Philip Theo, born 17 December 17 2007. They are in positions fifteenth and at sixteenth in line to the throne.

With no more male heirs of Queen Elizabeth II the line finally reverts to her daughter, Anne Elizabeth Alice Louise, born 15 August 1950 at Clarence House, London.

She married Mark Anthony Peter Phillips, born 22 September 1948, on 14 November 1973 at Westminster Abbey, and the pair had two children - Peter and Zara. Anne is seventeenth in line and Peter eighteenth.

Peter Mark Andrew was born 15 November 1977 at St Mary's Hospital, London. He married Autumn Patricia Kelly, born 3 May 1978, on 17 May 2008 at St. George's Chapel, Windsor. Their marriage has produced Anne's two oldest grandchildren - Savannah and Isla.

Born on 29 December 2010 at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital, Savannah Anne Kathleen is the Queen's eldest great-grandchild, but only nineteenth in the line of succession. She was christened at Holy Cross Church in Avening, Gloucestershire, on 23 April 2011 and named after her grandmother, Anne.
10. Isla Elizabeth

Answer: Anne Elizabeth Alice Louise

Isla Elizabeth was born 29 March 2012 at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital, and is twentieth in the succession line at this time. Isla was christened in a low-key ceremony at St Nicholas' Church in Gloucestershire on 1 July 2012, with yet another name tribute to the Queen.

Isla made her first balcony appearance in 2017 at the same time as Savannah, and both appeared yearly until 2022, when the group included only working members of the royal family. The Phillips girls regularly join the royal family at church services and Christmas day lunch. That completes Peter Phillips line and we move back to Anne's other child, Zara.
11. Mia Grace

Answer: Anne Elizabeth Alice Louise

Zara Anne Elizabeth was born 15 May 1981 at St Mary's Hospital, and married Mike James Tindall, born 18 October 1978, on 30 July 2011 at Canongate Kirk, Edinburgh. Their marriage has produced the other 3 of Anne's grandchildren - Mia, Lena and Lucas.

Mia Grace is twenty-second in line after her mother at twenty-first. She was born on 17 January 2014 at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital. Mia was christened on 30 November 2014 at St Nicholas Church in the village of Cherington.

As children and grandchildren of Princess Anne the Tindalls appear frequently at royal events.
12. Lena Elizabeth

Answer: Anne Elizabeth Alice Louise

Lena Elizabeth, born 18 June 2018 and twenty-third in the line for the throne, was also born at the Gloucestershire Royal. Christened at the St Nicholas Church in Cherington, Gloucestershire, on 16 March 2019 she is yet another named after her great-grandmother!

As her grandmother Anne declined titles for both of her children (Peter and Zara) at birth, their children are also not eligible for titles. Peter was the first child born to a princess without a title in over 500 years.
13. Lucas Philip

Answer: Anne Elizabeth Alice Louise

At twenty-fourth comes the last of the great-grandchildren alive during the Queen's reign. Lucas Philip was born at the couple's home in Gatcombe Park on 21 March 2021. He was christened alongside his second cousin, August Brooksbank, on 21 November 2021 at Royal Chapel of All Saints in Windsor, England.

Mike's father is named Philip and Zara's grandfather was Price Philip. It is also Zara's maiden name, albeit with a different spelling.

The Line of Succession follows the heirs' family line all the way to its youngest member and then reverts back to the original heir's next appropriate sibling and goes down their line and continues in this fashion.

As Queen Elizabeth had no more children, the line goes one step further back to other descendants of her father, King George VI. His only other child was Princess Margaret, who predeceased the Queen, so her eldest son David Albert Charles Armstrong-Jones becomes next in line, and so it continues. These lines are always very fluid. As someone above them in the line gets married or has more children they are all adjusted accordingly.
