Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Actress - played in the original "Star Trek" franchise

Answer: Nichelle Nichols

Actress Nichelle Nichols passed away on July 30, 2022, at the age of 89, from heart failure. She began her career as a singer and dancer, notably with Duke Ellington's band. She is best known for having played Lt. Nyota Uhura in the "Star Trek" original series from 1966 to 1969, and then reprised the role for the films that were released between 1979 and 1991.

Her death left only three surviving "Star Trek" main cast character actors: William Shatner, George Takei, and Walter Koenig.
2. Australian singer and actress - starred in "Grease"

Answer: Olivia Newton-John

Newton-John died at the age of 73 on August 8, at the end of her third battle with cancer. As a singer, she recorded many hits, including ten number 1 singles, 7 of which were consecutive. These included "I Honestly Love You" (1974), "Please Mr. Please" (1975) and "Physical" (1981). She is well remembered for playing Sandy in 1978's musical "Grease", alongside John Travolta.
3. Actor - played in the long-running series "Magnum, P.I."

Answer: Roger E. Mosley

Roger Earl Mosley died on August 7th at the age of 83. He was best known for having played the character of T.C. (Theodore Calvin) on "Magnum, P.I.", along with Tom Selleck, John Hillerman, and Larry Manetti, between 1980 and 1988. Mosley was in a car accident three days before his death that paralyzed him from the shoulders down, and he passed away from his injuries.
4. Musician - recorded many rock hits on his piano in the 1950s

Answer: Jerry Lee Lewis

Jerry Lee Lewis recorded many hit songs, including "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On" (1957), "Great Balls of Fire" (1957) and "Breathless" (1958). He was famous for playing rock riffs on his piano. In 1957, he controversially married his 13-year-old cousin once removed, Myra Gale Brown; she was to be the third of his seven wives.

He passed away at the age of 87 on October 28, following a bout of pneumonia, only two days after his death was falsely reported in some media reports.
5. Actor - appeared in the "Harry Potter" film series

Answer: Robbie Coltrane

Coltrane, born Anthony Robert McMillan, died on October 11th at the age of 72, following many illnesses. Although having acted since the 1980s, he is best known for his roles in two major franchises: the James Bond and the Harry Potter film series. He also provided many voices in other films.
6. Actress - starred in "Murder, She Wrote"

Answer: Dame Angela Lansbury

It's almost unfair to Angela Lansbury to count "Murder, She Wrote" as her biggest achievement; she did so much during her lifetime. Some of her earlier films include "National Velvet", "Samson and Delilah", and "The Harvey Girls". She later starred in or voiced characters in many Disney films, including "Bednobs and Broomsticks" and "Beauty and the Beast".

She died on October 11 at the age of 96.
7. Country singer - recorded "Coal Miner's Daughter"

Answer: Loretta Lynn

Loretta Lynn died on October 4th, 2022, at the age of 90. She recorded many country hits, including "You Ain't Woman Enough (To Take My Man)", "One's on the Way", and "Coal Miner's Daughter". In 1980, a film of the same name was made about her life. She scored a grand total of 24 number 1 hits during her lifetime.
8. World leader - last leader of the Soviet Union

Answer: Mikhail Gorbachev

Gorbachev was President of the Soviet Union only between 1990 and 1991. He was influential in dissolving the Soviet Union and ending the Cold War, and won a Nobel Peace Prize. He died on August 30th at the age of 91 in Moscow.
9. Songwriter, director, and producer - co-founded a film production company

Answer: Jules Bass

Bass originally worked for an advertising firm until he changed his field to the entertainment business. He wrote many songs for celebrities such as Fred Astaire and Mickey Rooney. He also co-founded Rankin/Bass productions with partner Arthur Rankin, Jr. He died at age 87 on October 25th.
10. Actress - played in "Parenthood"

Answer: Eileen Ryan

Eileen Ryan played in countless television parts between 1955 and 2014. She is probably best known, however, for being the wife of Leo Penn and the Mother of Sean, Chris, and Michael Penn. She passed away on October 9, 2022, at the age of 94.
