Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Here are four statements about Luke. Which one is incorrect?

Answer: Luke deserted Paul during the end of his ministry.

Luke is the author of the Gospel of Luke and the Book of Acts and he was known as the "beloved physician," as per Colossians 4:4. Although his name is not mentioned directly, Luke was also with Paul when he was shipwrecked off the coast of Malta (Acts 27). The common belief is Luke was involved in the shipwreck as the Scripture is part of the 'we passages' of Acts. Rather than using his name, Luke used terms like 'we' did this, or 'we' did that when he was personally involved in the account.

One thing is certain, however. Luke did not abandon Paul, but was faithful to the end. With the end drawing near after years and years of fighting the good fight, Paul, in his personal remarks to Timothy in 2 Timothy 4:9-11, in the NKJV, writes: "Be diligent to come to me quickly; for Demas has forsaken me, having loved this present world, and has departed for Thessalonica -- Crescens for Galatia, Titus for Dalmatia. Only Luke is with me."

It has been said that when things are going horribly wrong, a person quickly realizes who their true friends are. In this case, Luke proved he was forever faithful. Incidentally, many theologians believe Paul was executed shortly after he wrote 2 Timothy. If this was the case, Luke was with him to the end.
2. Here are four statements about Lazarus. Which one is incorrect?

Answer: He was one of the first people to see Jesus after His resurrection.

Lazarus lived in Bethany, was the brother of Mary and Martha, and was raised from the dead, as per the eleventh chapter of John. And there is no doubt Christ was a good friend of Lazarus and his sisters. In fact. John 11:5 reports he "loved" the trio.

However, Scripture gives no account of Lazarus, or his sisters for that matter, seeing Jesus after His resurrection. Yes, it's possible Lazarus and his sisters did see Christ following the crucifixion as 1 Corinthians 15:6 states He appeared to more than 500 people "at once". However, the incorrect answer has to be 'He was one of the first people to see Jesus after His resurrection.'
3. Here are four statements about Silas. Which one is incorrect?

Answer: He was married because Scripture mentions his mother-in-law.

Silas was brutally beaten and flogged with Paul and tossed into prison in Philippi, as per the 16th chapter of Acts. Despite their severe beatings, Acts 16:25 tells of the two prisoners praying and singing hymns at midnight while in prison.

In the salutations of 1 Thessalonians and 2 Thessalonians, Silas is referred to as Sylvanus. (In the NIV, the name Silas is used.) Silas is one of only three people to appear in the salutations of the books which Paul is credited with writing. The two other names that appear in the salutations of Paul's letters are Timothy and Sosthenes.

Howwever, there is no account in Scripture of Silas being married. It's possible he was married, however, the incorrect statement has to be 'He was married because Scripture mentions his mother-in-law'.
4. Here are four statements about Cornelius. Which one is incorrect?

Answer: He had a disagreement wth Timothy.

Cornelius was indeed a Roman centurion who helped the poor and was baptized by Peter, according to the tenth chapter of Acts. In fact, Cornelius was one of the first Gentile believers in a resurrected Jesus Christ.

However, there is no account in Scripture telling of him having a disagreement with Timothy, a young worker in the early church. In fact, there is no indication the two even met, let alone had a disagreement.
5. Here are four statements about Barnabas. Which one is incorrect?

Answer: He went on a missionary journey with Silas.

There is no account of Barnabas going on a missionary journey with Silas. In fact, Scripture tells of Barnabas having a disagreement with Paul because he wanted to take John Mark with them on Paul's second missionary trip, but Paul wanted no part of the plan. According to Acts 15:36-41, Paul opted to take Silas with him on the missionary trip and Barnabas and John Mark opted to go together to Cyprus.

Meanwhile, Acts 4:36-37 states his given name was Joses (Joseph in some translations) and he was from Cyprus. On top of this, Barnabas was a generous giver and was known for encouraging others. Acts 4:36-37, in the NKJV states: "And Joses, who was also named Barnabas by the apostles (which is translated Son of Encouragement), a Levite of the country of Cyprus, having land, sold it, and brought the money and laid it at the apostles' feet."
6. Here are four statements about Nathanael. Which one is incorrect?

Answer: He is mentioned a number of times in Acts.

According to John 1:43-50, Nathanael was from Bethsaida, the home of Peter and Andrew, and he was the first disciple to proclaim Jesus as the Son of God. He made the declaration months, possibly years, before Peter made a similar statement in Matthew 16:16.

Theologians believe he was also known as Bartholomew as this name appears in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke as well as the Book of Acts and the name Nathanael does not appear at all. However, Bartholomew's name appears only once in Acts, so the correct answer has to be 'He is mentioned a number of time in Acts.'
7. Here are four statements about Andrew. Which one is incorrect?

Answer: He was with Peter, James and John on Mount Transfiguration.

Andrew was not with Peter, James and John on Mount Transfiguration, as per Matthew 17:1.

Andrew was the brother of Peter and he was originally a disciple of John the Baptist, as per John 1:29-40. According to John 6:1-14, Andrew led a little boy with five loaves of bread and two small fish to Jesus and Christ used the pittance of food to feed 5,000 men. However, many theologians believe as many as 15,000 people were fed because the figure does not include women and children. As per the custom of the day, women and children were not included in census figures.
8. Here are four statements about James. Which one is incorrect?

Answer: He had a disagreement with Judas Iscariot.

James was the brother of John and the son of Zebedee, as per Matthew 4:21. And according to Acts 12:1-2, he was put to death by King Herod.

However, there is no account in Scripture about James having an argument with Judas Iscariot. It's possible all of the eleven other disciples had disagreements with Judas as the general tone of the Gospel of John makes it clear he was not a popular disciple, even before he betrayed Jesus. However, the correct answer has to be be 'He had a disagreement with Judas Iscariot.'
9. Here are four statements about Jairus. Which one is incorrect?

Answer: He was a Roman centurion.

Jairus was a synagogue ruler, not a centurion, and he fell at Jesus' feet begging for help, as per Mark 5:22.

According to Scripture, Jesus raised his 12-year-old daughter from the dead, as per Mark 5:35-43 and Luke 8:49-56.

The only two named centurions in the New Testament are Cornelius (Acts 10) and Julius (Acts 27). Although centurions were part of a ruthless killing machine, they are portrayed in remarkably good light in the New Testament.
10. Here are four statements about the disciple Phillip. Which one is incorrect?

Answer: He was in charge of looking after the money for Jesus and His disciples.

Judas Iscariot, not Phillip, was in charge of looking after the money for Jesus and His disciples, as per John 13:29.

Phillip was from Bethsaida (John 1:44) and was approached by a Greek delegation wanting to meet with Jesus. (John 12:20-21).

And yes, Phillip was sometimes slow in comprehending things, as per John 6:7 and John 14:8.

In the sixth chapter of John he had no understanding how Jesus would be able to feed a massive amount of people and in the fourteenth chapter he was confused by Jesus' statement that He and the Father are one.

John 14:6-11, in the NKJV, explains things this way: "Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him.' Philip said to Him, 'Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us.' Jesus said to him, 'Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, 'Show us the Father'? Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works. Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for the sake of the works themselves."
