Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What's the two hundredth verse in the Hebrew Bible or the Old Testament of the English Bible? (Hint: The 100th verse is found in Genesis 4:20)

Answer: Genesis 8:16

Genesis 8:16 is the correct answer. The first chapter of Genesis has 31 verses while the second chapter has 25 verses and the third chapter has 24, the fourth chapter 26, the fifth chapter 32, the sixth chapter 22 and the seventh chapter 24 for a total of 184 verses. Sixteen verses into the eighth chapter, you find the 200th verse.

Genesis 8:16 quotes the LORD telling Noah and his family to come out of the ark after a massive flood had engulfed the world. The verse, in the NIV, states: "Come out of the ark, you and your wife and your sons and their wives."

Verse 17 goes on to state: "Bring out every kind of living creature that is with you -- the birds, the animals, and all the creatures that move along the ground -- so they can multiply on the earth and be fruitful and increase in number on it."
2. What's the two hundredth chapter in the Hebrew Bible or the Old Testament of the English Bible? (Hint: Leviticus 10 is the 100th chapter.)

Answer: Joshua 13

The correct answer is Joshua 13. Genesis has 50 chapters, Exodus has 40, Leviticus 27, Numbers 36 and Deuteronomy 34 for a total of 187 chapters. Thirteen chapters later, in Joshua you come across the 200th chapter in the Old Testament. The chapter tells of Joshua being "old, advanced in years" and the division of land east of the Jordan River to some of the Twelve Tribes of Israel.
3. To win the hand of Michal, David killed 200 Philistines and presented their foreskins to her father, King Saul.

Answer: True

Yes, it's true according to Scripture. 1 Samuel 18:25 states Saul requested David produce 100 foreskins to win the hand of Michal. According to verse 27 of the same chapter, David complied by producing two hundred foreskins and won Michal's hand in marriage.

1 Samuel 18:27, in the NIV, states: "David took his men with him and went out and killed two hundred Philistines and brought back their foreskins. They counted out the full number to the king so that David might become the king's son-in-law. Then Saul gave him his daughter Michal in marriage."

According to notes in the NKJV Study Bible, Saul requested David to produce 100 foreskins in the hope he would be killed attempting to reach the goal. David, however, doubled the goal and produced 200 foreskins without any apparent difficulty.
4. Joshua 7:21, in the NIV, features the following quote which contains the number two hundred: "When I saw in the plunder a beautiful robe from Babylonia, two hundred shekels of silver and a bar of gold weighing fifty shekels, I coveted them and took them. They are hidden in the ground inside my tent, with the silver underneath." Who made the statement to Joshua?

Answer: Achan

The correct answer is Achan. He's perhaps the best known thief in the Old Testament.

According to the seventh chapter of Joshua, after Achan stole the booty, including 200 shekels of silver in the capture of Jericho, the LORD turned against the Israelites and they were defeated in battle at Ai. It's one of those long stories, but the Israelites invaded Jericho and were attempting to conquer Ai as it had been allocated to them as 'The Promised Land.'

After Achan made his confession in verse 21, his fate was sealed.

Joshua 7:22-26, in the NKJV, states: "So Joshua sent messengers, and they ran to the tent; and there it was, hidden in his tent, with the silver under it. And they took them from the midst of the tent, brought them to Joshua and to all the children of Israel, and laid them out before the LORD. Then Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan the son of Zerah, the silver, the garment, the wedge of gold, his sons, his daughters, his oxen, his donkeys, his sheep, his tent, and all that he had, and they brought them to the Valley of Achor. And Joshua said, 'Why have you troubled us? The LORD will trouble you this day.' So all Israel stoned him with stones; and they burned them with fire after they had stoned them with stones. Then they raised over him a great heap of stones, still there to this day. So the LORD turned from the fierceness of His anger. Therefore the name of that place has been called the Valley of Achor to this day."

The Web site Christiananswers.net reports Achan means one who troubles.
5. Judges 17:4 tells of a man stealing eleven hundred shekels of silver from his mother and then returning it to her, with the end result that she gave two hundred shekels of silver to a silversmith to make an idol. What was the name of the man?

Answer: Micah

The correct answer is Micah. In a nutshell, Micah opted to have a shrine in his house, according to the 17th chapter of Judges.

Judges 17:4-6, in the NIV, states: "So after he [Micah] returned the silver to his mother, she took two hundred shekels of silver and gave them to a silversmith, who used them to make the idol. And it was put in Micah's house. Now this man Micah had a shrine, and he made an ephod and some household gods and installed one of his sons as his priest. In those days Israel had no king; everyone did as they saw fit."

According to the Web site Christiananswers.net, the story of Micah illustrates the lawlessness of the times in which he lived.

It's interesting to note that eleven hundred shekels of silver is the same amount of money Delilah was paid when she betrayed Samson. Judges 16:5, in the NIV, states: "The rulers of the Philistines went to her [Delilah] and said, 'See if you can lure him [Samson] into showing you the secret of his great strength and how we can overpower him so we may tie him up and subdue him. Each one of us will give you eleven hundred shekels of silver.'"
6. Acts 23:23 tells of a worker in the early church being transferred to Caesarea by a detachment of two hundred soldiers and two hundred spearmen as well as a number of horsemen. Who was the worker in the early church?

Answer: Paul

The plan to transport Paul safely to meet with Governor Felix was devised by an unnamed commander of the Roman soldiers shortly after more than 40 men vowed not to eat or drink until they killed Paul. Acts 23:21 tells of the men waiting in ambush to kill him.

Acts 23:22-24 quotes the commander and tells of plans to transport Paul safely to Caeserea to meet with Governor Felix. "Then he called two of his centurions and ordered them, 'Get ready a detachment of two hundred soldiers, seventy horsemen and two hundred spearmen to go to Caesarea at nine tonight. Provide mounts for Paul so that he may be taken safely to Governor Felix.'"
7. 1 Samuel 25:18 tells of a future wife of David presenting him with, among other things, two hundred loaves of bread and two hundred cakes of pressed figs. According to Scripture, the woman made the presentation because she was fearful her husband Nabal had needlessly provoked David into hostile action. What was the woman's name?

Answer: Abigail

Abigail is the correct answer. According to Scripture, Abigail made the offering to David after her husband Nabal showed hostility toward David. Her offering to David had the desired effect and a battle was averted between David and his men and Nabal and his men, as per the 25th chapter of 1 Samuel.

A short while later, Nabal would be struck dead by the LORD and Abigail would become the wife of David, according to Scripture.
8. 1 Kings 10:16 tells of a king ordering the construction of two hundred large shields of hammered gold. Who was the king?

Answer: Solomon

Solomon is the correct answer. His reign can be truly described as a golden era in Israelite history. For example, 1 Kings 10:21 in the NIV Bible states: "All King Solomon's goblets were gold, and all the household articles in the Palace of the Forest of Lebanon were pure gold. Nothing was made of silver, because silver was considered of little value in Solomon's days." Verse 27 goes on to state Solomon "made silver as common in Jerusalem as stones." According to verse 23, Solomon was greater in riches and wisdom than all the other kings of the earth.
9. What's the two hundredth verse in the New Testament? (Hint: Matthew 5:10 is the 100th verse.)

Answer: Matthew 7:28

The correct answer is Matthew 7:28. The first chapter of Matthew has 25 verses while the second chapter has 23 verses, the third chapter has 17 and the fourth chapter 25, the fifth chapter 48 and the sixth chapter 34, giving a total of 172 verses. Twenty-eight verses into the seventh chapter, you find the two hundredth verse.

The seventh chapter of Matthew tells of Jesus telling people, among other things, to not judge others, to keep asking, seeking knocking and the wise men building his house on a rock.
At the conclusion of His sayings, Matthew 7:28 in the NKJV states: "And so it was, when Jesus had ended these sayings, that the people were astonished at His teaching."
10. What's the two hundredth chapter in the New Testament? (Hint: Acts 11 is the 100th chapter.)

Answer: 2 Timothy 4

The correct answer is 2 Timothy 4. In other words, you don't come across the two hundredth chapter in the New Testament until you're at the end of the 16th book. Matthew has 28 chapters while Mark has 16, Luke 24, John 21, Acts 28, Romans 16, 1 Corinthians 16, 2 Corinthians 13, Galatians 6, Ephesians 6, Philippians 4, Colossians 4, 1 Thessalonians 5, 2 Thessalonians 3 and 1 Timothy 6, for a total of 196 chapters. Four chapters, later you hit the 200th chapter at 2 Timothy 4. The chapter tells of Paul being the abandoned apostle.

In 2 Timothy 4:9-11, in the NIV, Paul tells Timothy: "Do your best to come to me quickly, for Demas, because he loved this world, has deserted me and has gone to Thessalonica. Crescens has gone to Galatia, and Titus to Dalmatia. Only Luke is with me."
