Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Chapters 1 and 2 of Genesis tell of God creating the world. According to Genesis 2:3, what did God do on the seventh day?

Answer: All of these

The correct answer is 'all of these'. Genesis 2:2-3 in the NKJV explains things this way: "And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it..."

The account of God's creation of the world is found in Genesis 1 and 2 with Adam being the first man and Eve being the first woman.
2. According to Genesis 29, Jacob worked for seven years and was rewarded with Leah becoming his wife. Scripture goes on to state he worked an additional seven years and was rewarded with Rachel being his wife. Who was the man he worked for, for two seven-year stints?

Answer: Laban

Laban is the correct answer. There's no disputing the fact he was shrewd and devious. Laban got fourteen years of labor out of Jacob, largely by tricking him. Jacob agreed to work for seven years for Laban if he could marry his younger daughter Rachel. However, at the end of seven years, Laban gave Jacob his older daughter Leah in marriage, saying "it is not our custom here to give the younger daughter in marriage before the older one." So, Jacob agreed to work an additional seven years for Rachel's hand.

It's a case of what goes around, comes around. After all, Jacob was a master deceiver as he had duped his elderly father Isaac into giving him his blessing over his twin brother Esau, as per Genesis 27: 1-40. After this incident, Jacob ended up fleeing as Esau plotted to kill him.
3. According to Genesis 41, who had two dreams, with one being about seven fattened cows and seven emaciated cows, and the second dream about seven good heads of grain and seven blighted heads?

Answer: The Pharaoh

According to Genesis 41, the Pharaoh had two dreams. In the first dream, he saw seven fat cows and seven emaciated cows. Then in the second dream, he saw seven good heads of grain and seven blighted heads. The Pharaoh was troubled because no one could apparently tell him what his dreams meant. The Pharaoh's chief butler had served time in prison with Joseph and told the Pharaoh Joseph had successfully interpreted a dream for him. As a result, Joseph was called upon to interpret the two dreams for the Pharaoh.

Genesis 41:25-28 tells of Joseph's interpretation in which he predicted Egypt would experience seven years of abundance followed by seven years of famine.

Scripture goes on to tell of Joseph's interpretation being accurate and the Pharaoh promoting him to the second highest position in Egypt.
4. In what book in the Old Testament do you read about God commanding the Israelites to dwell in booths for seven days? (In the NIV, it states temporary shelters rather than booths.)

Answer: Leviticus

The command for the Israelites to live in booths, or temporary shelters, for seven days appears in Leviticus 23:42. It's part of God's command to the Israelites to celebrate the Feast of the Tabernacles annually on the fifteenth day of the seventh month.

During the Feast of Tabernacles, or Sukkot, the Jewish people were commanded to gather together to remember God's provision in the wilderness when they spent forty years traveling from Egypt to Canaan, known as the Promised Land.
5. According to 2 Kings 4:32-35, an unnamed child sneezed seven times when he was raised from the dead by a prophet of God. Who was the prophet who revived the boy?

Answer: Elisha

According to Scripture, Elisha raised an unnamed boy from the dead in Shunem. 2 Kings 4:32-35 tells of Elisha praying to the LORD before he "lay on the child, and put his mouth on his mouth, his eyes on his eyes, and his hands on his hands; and he stretched himself out on the child, and the flesh of the child became warm." Scripture goes on to tell of Elisha walking back and forth in the house and again stretching himself out on the child. Amazingly, the child sneezed seven times and opened his eyes.

According to the website Christiananswers.net, Shunem "was a little village in the tribe of Issachar, to the north of Jezreel and south of Mount Gilboa."
6. What was the name of the community Joshua and the Israelites marched around seven times and the walls came tumbling down? (Joshua 6)

Answer: Jericho

The walls of Jericho came tumbling down, enabling the Israelites to easily conquer the city, according to the sixth chapter of Joshua.

Joshua 6:2-5 tells of the LORD giving instructions to Joshua on how to bring down the walls of Jericho. As part of the instructions, the Israelites were to march around the city once for six consecutive days with seven priests bearing seven trumpets of rams' horns.

Instructions for the seventh day were distinctly different. Scripture goes on to tell of the LORD instructing the Israelites to march around the city seven times and for the seven priests to blow their seven trumpets. After the priests blew the trumpets, all the people were "to shout with a great shout" and the walls would come tumbling down, the LORD is quoted as saying.

Sure enough, that's exactly what happened, according to Scripture. As documented in Joshua 6:17-25, only Rahab the prostitute and her parents, as well as her brothers and sisters, were spared when the Israelites took possession of Jericho.
7. According to Matthew 15:32-39, Jesus took seven loaves of bread and "a few small fish" and fed a multitude of people. How many people did Jesus feed with the pittance of food?

Answer: 4,000 men, not counting women and children

Matthew 15:38 states Jesus fed four thousand men, not counting women and children, with the seven loaves of bread and a few small fish. It was the custom of the day not to include women and children in census figures and the like. Many theologians believe Jesus fed as many as twelve thousand people based on the view there would've been at least one woman and one child for each man in attendance.

Interestingly, Matthew 15:37 tells of seven large baskets being filled with the fragments left over from the miraculous feeding.

A similar account can be found in Mark 8:1-10.
8. According to Mark 16:9, Jesus drove seven demons out of a woman. What was her name?

Answer: Mary Magdalene

The seven demons were driven out of Mary Magdalene by Jesus, according to Scripture. However, little in the way of details is given about the miraculous healing as the incident is mentioned in passing reference. Mark 16:9 in the NKJV, for example, simply states, "Now when He rose early on the first day of the week, He appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom He had cast seven demons."

It is believed Mary came from Magdala, a town on the Sea of Galilee, and she was given the name Mary Magdalene to differentiate her from a number of other women who were also called Mary in the New Testament.
9. According to Revelation 1:4, who had a vision involving seven churches in Asia Minor?

Answer: John

John is the correct answer. According to Revelation 1:11, the seven churches in John's vision were in Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamos, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia and Laodicea, all cities in present-day Turkey. When Revelation was written, the communities were all in Asia Minor.

Revelation is the last book of the New Testament and it has perplexed readers for centuries. Tradition holds the writer was John, one of the original Twelve Disciples, but some modern day theologians dispute this fact. Personally, I am on the side of tradition.

According to Revelation 1:9, John was in exile on the island of Patmos when he wrote the book.
10. Revelation 8:2 tells of seven angels who were given seven musical instruments. What musical instrument was given to the angels? (Revelation 8:2)

Answer: Trumpets

The angels were given seven trumpets, as per Revelation 8:2. After each angel blew on a trumpet, the earth was struck with horrific calamities, according to Scripture.

After the first trumpet, the earth's vegetation was struck while the seas were struck after the second trumpet and the waters struck after the third trumpet. After the fourth trumpet, the heavens were struck and after the fifth trumpet locusts were unleashed from the Bottomless Pit. After the sixth trumpet, Angels from the Euphrates struck and a third of mankind was killed. Scripture goes on to state that after the seventh trumpet, John had a vision of a mighty Angel with the Little Book.

The number seven is featured prominently in Revelation. In fact, using the NKJV, the number seven can be found thirty-six times in the book. To put things in perspective, in the other twenty-six New Testament books in the NKJV, the number seven is found thirty-seven times.
