The U.S.A. qualified for the ICC Champions Trophy in 2004, playing two matches against New Zealand and Australia respectively. Nepal had qualified for the Under-19 ICC World Cup, but had never played a senior one-day international.

Singapore had every reason to feel hard done by in the aftermath of the tournament. After crushing Afghanistan by 69 runs, they were denied the opportunity to play out their final match against the Bahamas by rain. A big win would have seen the Singaporeans through to the semi-finals but as it stood, the Afghans progressed on net run rate.

With a robust pace attack and an aggressive approach to the game, Afghanistan looked dangerous from the outset of the tournament. After a hiccup in the group stages (in the form of a loss to Singapore), Afghanistan saw off Nepal in the semi-finals and then Jersey in the final.

Nepalese seamer Mahaboob Alam skittled Mozambique's batting line-up for 19 finishing with figures of 10/12. In so doing became the first bowler to take all ten wickets in an innings of an ICC Associates' or Affiliates' international match.

This was a new experience for the Vanuatu team, who qualified for the event by finishing second to Japan in the East Asia Pacific Championship. Mozambique recovered from their pasting at the hands of Nepal earlier in the tournament to defeat Norway in the group stages. Norway picked up three wins (against Vanuatu, Japan and the Bahamas), whilst the Bahamas picked up up a solitary win in the play off for 11th against Vanuatu.

Norwegian captain Shahid Ahmed finished on 349 runs at an average of 87.25. He also hit the tournament's high score, a blistering 133 not out against Vanuatu.

Answer: Mahaboob Alam, Nepal

Nepal's ten wicket hero Mahaboob Alam finished the tournament with 19 wickets, while county cricketer Ryan Driver took 12. Despite taking 5/9 against Afghanistan, Chris Janik was only used sparingly in the attack and took six wickets in total for the tournament.

Chasing 116 to win in a rain-reduced match, Japan finished their innings on 115, with captain Ko Irie run out on the last ball.
