Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What west coast stadium, that hosted Super Bowl LVI just eleven months earlier, was the site of the 2023 College Football Playoff National Championship?

Answer: SoFi Stadium

SoFi Stadium is located in the Los Angeles suburb of Inglewood in southern California. The stadium opened in 2020 with a construction cost of over $5 billion and it is home to the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers of the NFL. The 2023 College Football Championship game at SoFi Stadium had 72,628 fans in attendance.
2. What teams did the #1 Georgia Bulldogs and the #3 TCU Horned Frogs beat in the semifinals to make it to the 2023 College Football Playoff National Championship?

Answer: Ohio State and Michigan

The semifinal at the Peach Bowl was contested between #1 Georgia and #4 Ohio State and it was a thrilling game. Georgia came back from a 14-point deficit in the fourth quarter to win 42-41 after Ohio State missed a possible game winning field goal as time expired.

The semifinal at the Fiesta Bowl pitted #2 Michigan against #3 TCU. TCU won 51-45 after several lead changes in an exciting second half.
3. Georgia got on the board first in the Championship game with a 21-yard touchdown run. What player, that wore jersey number 13, carried the ball for the opening score?

Answer: Stetson Bennett - quarterback

Stetson Bennett was born in Atlanta in 1997 and he had a stellar 2022 season as he led his team to a 15-0 record and had more than 4,000 yards passing. Bennett would win the Manning Award in 2022 in recognition of being selected as the best college football quarterback.

In addition to his passing skills, Bennett is also a capable running quarterback as evidenced by his two rushing touchdowns in the title game.
4. What TCU wide receiver set up the team's only touchdown when he caught a 60-yard pass on the team's third drive in the 2023 Championship game?

Answer: Derius Davis

Derius Davis was the #2 receiver on TCU and he was one of the lone bright spots of the game for TCU. Although he lost a fumble on the second drive, Davis recorded five catches for 101 yards. TCU's leading receiver during the season, Quentin Johnston, had just one catch for three yards in the championship game.
5. Georgia scored on all six of its possessions in the first half of the 2023 College Championship game.

Answer: True

Georgia dominated the first half against TCU taking a big lead into halftime by scoring on every possession. Over the course of the whole game, Georgia did not turn the ball over and punted just one time.
6. What Georgia running back had 42 yards and two touchdowns on just seven carries in the 2023 College Football Championship game?

Answer: Branson Robinson

Branson Robinson was second on the depth chart at running back in the title game for Georgia but he made the most of his opportunities. Georgia moved the ball both passing and rushing which allowed the team to give many of their back ups more playing time since they had such a sizable lead.
7. What safety for the Georgia Bulldogs was voted as the Defensive MVP of the 2023 College Football Playoff National Championship, as he had two interceptions and a fumble recovery?

Answer: Javon Bullard

Javon Bullard had a defensive holding penalty on TCU's second drive but he played stellar defense the rest of the game. Incredibly, he was the recipient of three turnovers (2 interceptions, 1 fumble recovery) in just the first half when he ended three TCU drives.

Unfortunately, Bullard had to leave the title game early with a shoulder injury but by that point Georgia already had a large lead.
8. Georgia's defensive line dominated TCU's offensive line in the 2023 College Football Championship game. What freshman wearing jersey #99 had a sack and two tackles for a loss in the game?

Answer: Bear Alexander

Bear Alexander was born in Denton, TX and he was one of five Georgia players in the title game to record both a sack and tackle for loss. With several of Georgia's starting defensive line declaring for the NFL draft, Bear Alexander moved up the depth chart after the title game.
9. What player had the most receptions (7) and receiving yards (152) in the 2023 College Football Championship game?

Answer: Brock Bowers

Brock Bowers had a solid 2022 season with 63 catches for 942 yards and three touchdowns. His best game of the season was the title game in which he consistently got open in the middle of the field for big gains including a 22-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter.
10. What record setting margin of victory did Georgia have over TCU in the 2023 College Football Championship game?

Answer: 58 points

Georgia beat TCU 65-7 in the title game, a whopping 58-point margin. Not only did the 58-point margin set a record for a title game in the FBS era, it also set the record margin of victory in any bowl game in the FBS era. Georgia dominated TCU in all areas of the game, especially in yardage gained (589 to 188).
The win gave Georgia back-to-back titles ... they beat Alabama Crimson Tide 33-18 a year earlier.
