Leon Marchand (born 17 May 2002) from France won the following events: 200m butterfly, 200m breaststroke, 200m individual medley and 400m individual medley. He became the fourth swimmer in Olympic history to win four gold medals in a single Games.

Summer McIntosh (born 18 August 2006) won the 200m butterfly, 200m individual medley and 400m individual medley. She also finished second in the 400m freestyle, which was won by Australian swimmer Ariarne Titmus.

Sarah Sjostrom (born 17 August 1993) won two individual gold medals with her wins in these two events. She specialized in freestyle and butterfly.

Italian swimmer Nicolo Martinenghi (born 1 August 1999) won the event in 59.03 sec, 0.02 seconds ahead of Peaty and American swimmer Nic Fink. Peaty and Fink shared the silver medal. Peaty is the first male swimmer to record sub-57 and sub-56 seconds for this event.

Pan Zhanle (born 4 August 2004) made history for his country when he became the first Chinese swimmer to win the 100m freestyle. He broke the world record with a time of 46.4 seconds, more than 1 second ahead of Australian swimmer Kyle Chalmers who clocked 47.48 seconds and Romanian swimmer David Popovici in 47.49 seconds.

Pan first clocked sub-47 seconds at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou (held in 2023 due to COVID-19). He clocked 46.97 sec to win this event and is the fifth male swimmer to achieve this milestone.
8. Daniel Wiffen became the first Irish male swimmer to win what event?

Daniel Wiffen (born 14 July 2001) won the 800m freestyle. He won the bronze in the 1500m freestyle. At the 2024 Doha World Aquatics Championship, he won the 800m and 1500m freestyle.
