Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:
Wing Attack is a position in Netball.
Stumps are used in Cricket.
A Mallet is traditionally used in Croquet.
A Batter or Batsman or hitter are terms used in cricket, softball and baseball.
Pike is a term used in diving.
The terms used in the correct answers are applicable to,
Association Football (Soccer), American Football (Gridiron), Rugby Union, Rugby League, Australian Rules and Hurling.
TRY, is a term used in both forms of rugby, when the ball is grounded over the opponent's goal-line, A try is worth 5 points in rugby union and four points in rugby league.
GOAL, is a notification of a score in, football of all forms, basketball and hockey to name a few.
TOUCHDOWN, is a term used in American Football to signify a score, when the ball is taken over the opponent's goal line.
BEHIND, is a scoring point in Australian Rules Football when the ball is kicked through the outer goalposts, as opposed to the centre goalposts which scores a goal (worth 6 pts). So, a final score could read Team A, 14-11-95 Team B, 12-9-81 meaning Team A kicked fourteen goals and eleven behinds to Team B's twelve goals and nine behinds. I know it sounds odd to say a team kicked eleven behinds but it is what it is. Team A won 95-81.
HALF BACK, is a position in rugby union & rugby league similar to a quarterback in American Football. In American Football the half back is an offensive runner.
FIELD GOAL, is a term for a goal kicked in general play in rugby union & rugby league ... or a score in American Football where a play is set up as an attacking play when the designated place kicker is brought onto the field.
SCRUM, is a term generic to both forms of rugby.
RUCK, is a term used for a scrimmage in rugby union.
MAUL, is a term used in rugby union similar to a ruck.
HOOKER, is a position used in both forms of rugby, although the role of the hooker in rugby league has changed over time in that he serves as the ball distributor at the start of each play (this position is often referred to as number nine).
LEFT BACK, is a nominal position in soccer (Association Football) as the rules only designate the position of goalkeeper. Other positions have evolved over the years.
STAND OFF, is a playing position in rugby union; the same position is called five-eighth in rugby league.
HURLEY, is a stick used in hurling (and Camogie the Women's version of the sport). Hurling includes elements of various styles of football (mostly Gaelic Football) and Field Hockey.
FULL FORWARD, is an attacking position used in Australian Rules Football.
