Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:
Many of these stadiums are long established and have names which won't change, although you never know. Several clubs still play in their original grounds which date back to the late nineteenth century. These include the oldest, Wrexham's Racecourse Ground, which dates from 1801 when it was a horseracing course. It has been used for football since 1864. Liverpool's Anfield dates from 1884 while one which is included in the quiz is Bramall Lane, from 1855. Dundee's Tannadice Park is the oldest stadium in Scotland - it was built in 1870.
Of course, the stadiums have been improved over the years and many teams have relocated to flashy new grounds with better facilities and which can accommodate more spectators. Fans often say they don't have the atmosphere of the long established grounds.
London, of course, has several other stadiums including Chelsea's Stamford Bridge, The Valley, home to Charlton FC, and Loftus Road, Queens Park Rangers' ground. Liverpool has Anfield as well as Goodison Park, while Birmingham also has two teams - Birmingham City play at St Andrew's while Aston Villa's ground is Villa Park. Other cities with at least two teams are Manchester (City and United), Bristol (City and Rovers) and Sheffield (Wednesday and United). Glasgow has Celtic, who play at Celtic Park, as well as Rangers while Dundee and Edinburgh also have more than one football club.
