Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Center

The center position is the offensive player who hikes the ball to begin the play. In 1967, Chuck Bednarik from the Philadelphia Eagles was the first center to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
2. Right tackle

The offense line consists of two tackles, two guards, and one center. The right tackle blocks the blindside for left handed quarterbacks.
3. Tight end

The tight end serves as a sixth lineman and also serves as a pass catching threat for the offense. Legendary tight ends include Shannon Sharpe, Tony Gonzalez, Mike Ditka, and Rob Gronkowski.
4. Wide receiver

The wide receiver, as pictured, lines up the widest of all the offensive players. They are the primary receivers in the passing game. Jerry Rice and Michael Irvin are among the greatest NFL wide receivers of all-time.
5. Quarterback

Many consider the quarterback the most important position on the offensive side of the football team. The quarterback receives the hike, decides whether to run the ball or pass, and has the ability to audible and change the play at the last second.
6. Running back

The running back can also be called the halfback. Their primary role is to receive a handoff from the quarterback and run the ball. They can also be used a pass receiving option.
7. Defensive tackle

On the defensive line, you typically have two defensive tackles and two defensive ends along with three linebackers. This is called a 4-3 defense. Some teams use a 3-4 defense, which includes one defensive tackle and four linebackers.
8. Free safety

The deepest played position on the defense are the strong and free safety. Their job is to roam the field and fill in gaps in the running game or to aid in the pass coverage.
9. Cornerback

The cornerback is the defensive player responsible for guarding the wide receiver nearest to them. Typically there is one cornerback for each wide receiver the offense uses. So in the case the offense puts out three wide receivers, the defense will send out three cornerbacks.
10. Middle linebacker

The middle linebacker, as pictured, is in the center of the defense. He is a critical player as he typically calls the defensive plays. In addition, the middle linebacker is critical in the stopping the offense's run game and can be used in coverage on passing plays.
