Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This quarterback of 21 seasons took snaps from the 49ers to the Falcons before he retired in 1998. Who is he?

Answer: Steve Deberg

Deberg had three 3,000+ yards in a season. He also played for the Broncos, Bucs, Chiefs, and Dolphins. He retired with 34,241 yards with a TD/INT ratio of 196-204.
2. One of the most feared linebackers in the NFL, this Bear played for nine seasons, with eight being a Pro Bowl selection. Who was he?

Answer: Dick Butkus

From 1965-1973, Butkus terrorized quarterbacks. Unfortunately, and even with all his prowess, he never saw a postseason game in his career.
3. I spent nine seasons as a Raider running back. I was primarily used as a blocking back, but I still scored 47 touchdowns on the ground in my career. Can you spell my name correctly?

Answer: Pete Banaszak

Pete was never selected to a Pro Bowl due to his blocking duties, but he did block for some greats in the names of Clem Daniels, Charlie Smith, Marv Hubbard, and Mark VanEeghen. Banaszak retired in 1978.
4. The only thing that stood out with my Tampa Buccaneers was their losing record, and that nobody could spell my name correctly. What is it?

Answer: Garo Yepremian

Garo played for the hapless Buccaneers in 1980 and 1981. His unfortunate memorable moment was as a Dolphin in Super Bowl VII, when he comically botched a field goal attempt, trying to kick it while turned sideways.
5. For 15 seasons from 1958-1972, the Green Bay Packers' defense was more than complimented by which tremendous linebacker?

Answer: Ray Nitschke

The number 66 led the Packers throughout all the 1960s, and along the way with some Super Bowls also. Amazingly enough, Ray was a Pro Bowl selection only one time in his career, in 1964.
6. Making his name as a Los Angeles Ram quarterback in the 1960s, this strong arm retired as an Eagle in 1977 with four Pro Bowl selections. Who was this number 18 wearing quarterback?

Answer: Roman Gabriel

In his second season in 1963, Gabriel blossomed with Zeke Bratkowski as his back-up. His favorite receiver was running back Dick Bass. 1973 saw Roman as an Eagle, throwing to receivers such as Tom Sullivan and Harold Carmichael. He retired in 1977 with 201 TD passes. He also ran for 30 more.
7. After 10 seasons with the New England Patriots, this kicker became a Colt in 2006. Who is he?

Answer: Adam Vinatieri

In his first 10 seasons in the NFL, Vinatieri scored 100 or more points each season.
8. This 1999 quarterback was a rookie in Green Bay. After two seasons, he was shipped off to Seattle. Who was he?

Answer: Matt Hasselbeck

Being a back-up to the great Brett Favre at Green Bay was not in his cards. He threw for over 2000 yards in his first season with Seattle, then 3075 in 2002, and 3844 in 2003 which earned him a Pro Bowl selection.
9. For 16 seasons in the NFL, and all but one with the Minnesota Vikings, this defensive lineman made the Pro Bowl six times in his career. Who was this purple-wearing number 81?

Answer: Carl Eller

Both Eller and Alan Page teamed up to create one of the most feared defensive lines with the Vikings. Carl retired as a Seahawk in 1979.
10. Who was this New York Jet who was well known for his animated antics after a quarterback sack?

Answer: Mark Gastineau

All Mark's 10 seasons were as a New York Jet, and five of those were Pro Bowl appearances.
