Answer: Frank Lampard

Lampard had by his high standards an average season. Despite helping win the League Cup and FA Cup double, Frank missed out on the big two trophies (Champions League and Premiership), in which many had expected Chelsea to win.
Lampard began his career in East London with West Ham, where in a seven-year spell he enjoyed limited success. In May 2001, he was transferred to Chelsea for an undisclosed fee. By the end of the 2006-07 season, Lampard had won seven major honours for his clubs and represented England over 50 times.

Answer: Paul Scholes

Scholes had a magnificent season and was crowned a Champion with Manchester United. Born locally, Scholes had been a pivotal piece to the successes United have had over the previous decade. In 2006-07, Scholes won his seventh title to add to three FA Cups, one League Cup and a Champions League title. Scholes was a product of the United youth system and made his debut in the September of 1994 scoring twice.

Internationally. Scholes retired in 2004 after a goal laden career which saw 14 goals in 66 appearances.

Answer: Steven Gerrard

Ask any Liverpool fan to name their greatest XI to wear a Liverpool shirt and it would have been difficult for them to leave out Steven Gerrard.
His leadership skills had led English football's most successful club to a large amount of silverware. Gerrard also was seen as a scorer of vital goals.
In 2005, his Liverpool team were trailing 3-0 at half time to AC Milan in the Champions League final. Early into the second half, Gerrard headed home the first goal in what became the competitions most amazing comeback (to date), a 3-3 draw and a penalty shoot out win for the Merseyside team. A year later with injury time ticking by, Gerrard fired an unstoppable 30-yard shot into the West Ham United goal to take the FA Cup final into extra time, ironically, Liverpool also won that on penalties. Gerrard made his debut for Liverpool in 1998 and played a huge part in the successes that were to follow.

Answer: Robin Van Persie

Van Persie started his career at Dutch side Feyenoord and later moved to Arsenal in 2004. This young talent showed glimpses of sheer class and many were comparing him to his much celebrated compatriot Dennis Bergkamp.
The scorer of wonderful goals, Van Persie found himself sidelined for the latter half of the 2006-07 season due to breaking his fifth metatarsel on his right foot. The injury occured when Van Persie had equalised for Arsenal against Manchester United (a game Arsenal went on to win 2-1).

Answer: Jermaine Defoe

Defoe's career began in controversy when West Ham Ubited snapped him up from under the noses of London rivals Charlton Athletic. Defoe then went on loan to south coast side Bournemouth, where he scored a plethora of goals, 18 in 29 matches. Once he broke into the West Ham side, Jermaine continued to score goals at a regular rate.

In 2004 he joined Tottenham Hotspur in a swap deal for money and Tottenham striker Bobby Zamora. Defoe's career stats for Spurs by the end of 2006-07 saw over 50 goals scored, he also represented England at full level over 20 times scoring three times, however, in April 2007, Preston North End striker David Nugent stole a certain goal from Defoe in a Euro 2008 qualification tie against Andorra.

Answer: Kevin Nolan

This Liverpudlian signed professional terms for Bolton Wanderers in 1997 and went on to captain his side. His hard tackling and endless energy saw him become prominent in the rise of his club up the Premiership football ladder and a place in the UEFA Cup for the season 2007-08. Quiet and eloquent off the field, Nolan wrote a weekly article for the BBC sports website which allowed football fans to ask him a number of questions about the game and about life in general.

Answer: David Bentley

An exciting and sometimes arrogant type of player, Bentley became a strong candidate to break in to the England side by the end of the 2006-07 season.
He started his career at Arsenal but never really got the opportunity to break into the first team. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger sent Bentley out on loan firstly to Norwich City, then Blackburn Rovers. However, there was no way into the Arsenal side, so Bentley made his move to Blackburn permanant in January 2006.

Answer: Leroy Lita

Lita had started his youth career at Chelsea, but in 1999 he was released and left to find a club to pursue his dream. That club was Bristol City and in the space of four seasons he became a fans favourite. His goalscroing rate saw a place in the England Under 21's and a million pound move to Reading in 2005. Injury hampered his involvement in the team that won promotion to the English Premiership in 2005-06.

Born in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Lita had expressed his desire to play for his home nation, however, he changed his mind when selected to play for the English Under 21's. Even though by the end of 2006-07 he was 22-years old, he was still eligible to play in the European U-21 championships held in 2007.

Answer: Andrew Johnson

Johnson was one of the shortest forwards in English football, but what he lacked in height he made up for in sheer guts and determination, and he won over many football fans with some fantastic displays. His first club, Birmingham, saw many good times and Premiership football was won on the back of Johnson's goals.

However, he never kicked a ball for Birmingham in the top flight due to a move to Crystal Palace. Like with Birmingham, Johnson scored vital goals that sealed Premiership football for the South London outfit. Palace struggled terribly,and despite 20+ goals, Johnson could not save them from relegation back to the Championship.

He performances alerted many clubs, with Arsenal and Tottenham seemingly his prefered destinations, so it came as a surprise when in May 2006 he chose to play for Everton.

Answer: Sol Campbell

Campbell had ten years of hero worship status at Tottenham Hotspur, but when he became a free agent he moved to arch rivals Arsenal. This went down very poorly and Campbell found that both sets of fans were not best pleased with the deal. However, in his first season at Arsenal he won the League and FA Cup 'double' and played a pivotal part in the clubs record breaking unbeaten season of 2002-3. During the 2005-06, Campbell had to overcome a series of personal setbacks, which culminated in an abject display during a 2-3 loss to West Ham.

His final match in an Arsenal shirt was the 2006 Champions League final where he scored the only Arsenal goal in a 1-2 loss to Barcelona. Shortly after he was released by Arsenal and joined Portsmouth.
