Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Super Bowl XLI was played in Miami. What was the name of the stadium?

Answer: Dolphin Stadium

The stadium was opened in 1987 and was originally named for then Dolphin owner Joe Robbie. In 1996, new Dolphin owner Wayne Huizenga changed the name to Pro Player Stadium. Also in 1996, the stadium began hosting the Orange Bowl college football game. In 2005, the name was changed to Dolphin Stadium.
2. Chicago Bear Devin Hester became the first player in NFL history to return the opening kickoff of a Super Bowl for a touchdown. How many yards long was that return?

Answer: 92

Hester's big return gave Chicago a great start. It would not be enough. Hester became the 8th player to return a kickoff for a touchdown in a Super Bowl. Ironically, only 2 of these 8 players wound up on the winning team.
3. What player was named MVP of Super Bowl XLI?

Answer: Peyton Manning

Peyton passed for 247 yards and 1 touchdown. He led the Colts offense in a ball-control game played in heavy rain. The Colts offense won the time of possession battle by more 16 minutes, and eventually wore out the Chicago defense.
4. The Bears had a 14-6 lead late in the first quarter. What player scored the Bears' second touchdown?

Answer: Muhsin Muhammad

Muhammad's 4-yard touchdown catch was actually his second Super Bowl touchdown catch. He played with Carolina in Super Bowl XXXVIII, and caught an 85-yard touchdown pass from Jake Delhomme. It was a new record for the longest TD catch in Super Bowl history. Unfortunately for Muhammad, his Panthers lost to the Patriots that day 32-29.
5. What player led the Colts with 10 receptions, one shy of the existing Super Bowl record at that time?

Answer: Joseph Addai

Rookie Joseph Addai played like a veteran. He caught those 10 passes for 66 yards and added another 77 yards on 19 rushing attempts.
6. The Colts took a 16-14 lead in the second quarter. They would never trail again. What player scored the touchdown that put the Colts in the lead for good?

Answer: Dominic Rhodes

7. Which player had the most rushing yards in Super Bowl XLI?

Answer: Dominic Rhodes

Rhodes led all ball carriers with 113 yards on 21 carries. It was his first 100-yard game of the entire season. In fact, it was his first 100-yard game since 2001. That year, Colt star runner Edgerrin James had a season ending knee injury. Rhodes started the final 11 games of 2001 and gained 1,104 yards. He became the first undrafted rookie to gain 1,000 in NFL history.
8. In the 4th quarter of Super Bowl XLI, the game was still close. The biggest play of the game changed that. The Colts intercepted a pass and returned it 56 yards for a touchdown. What Colt defender made that big play?

Answer: Kelvin Hayden

Hayden entered the game as a substitute for the injured Nick Harper. He made the most of his opportunity. It was his first career interception. Colts fans will never forget it. Neither will Bears fans. Ironically, Hayden was born and raised in Chicago. He attended the University of Illinois. He and his family were life-long Bears fans.
9. Reggie Wayne caught Peyton Manning's only touchdown pass of Super Bowl XLI. How long was that touchdown pass?

Answer: 53 yards

Reggie only had 2 catches all day, but one was a real big one. That first Colts touchdown started the team rolling. It came on the Colts' second possession of the game, and helped them recover from Chicago's touchdown on the opening kickoff.
10. Colt Defensive Tackle Anthony "Booger" McFarland sacked Rex Grossman in the third quarter of Super Bowl XLI. The Colts acquired McFarland in a mid-season trade. What team sent McFarland to the Colts?

Answer: Buccaneers

McFarland was actually drafted by Colt head coach Tony Dungy when he was coaching for Tampa Bay. Dungy picked McFarland in the first round of the 1999 NFL Draft with the 15th overall selection. He was a perfect match for the Colts as he had been playing in a "Tony Dungy style defense" his whole career.
11. What Colt defender forced a fumble by Bears running back Cedric Benson, and later intercepted a Chicago pass?

Answer: Bob Sanders

Sanders missed most of the regular season recovering from a knee injury, but he was healthy for all 4 Colt playoff games. The hard hitting safety made a noticable difference. Some felt he deserved considerstion for MVP of Super Bowl XLI.
12. How many points did the Bears score in the second half of Super Bowl XLI?

Answer: 3

The Colt defense held the Bear offense to just 10 points in Super Bowl XLI (special teams gave up the other 7). During the regular season the Colt defense struggled, but in the postseason they really elevated their level of play and became a strength the team could count on.
13. Who was the last player to score in Super Bowl XLI?
