This playoff also witnessed Bobby Thomson's "shot heard around the world", his game and series winning home run. They went on to lose to the Yankees in the World Series.
4. Duck: My name is Ozzie Smith. I strated my Major Leauge carrer with the San Deigo Padres, then later plyed with the St. Louis Cardinals. I was a 15-time gold glove at second base. In 1987, I was the runerup to Andre Dawson for the MVP. I retired in 1996, and was a 2002 Hall of Faime inductee.
5. Horse: The 2004 World Series won by the Boston Red Sox, was manager Tony Francona's first World Series appearance after managing the Tigers for 12 seasons. The Red Sox defeated the Cardinals four games to none, with the bat of Manny Ramirez and four pitchers winning one game each. Larry Walker was the only Cardinal who hit a home run in the series.
6. Duck: I was won of three bruthers in the Major Leauges. The others had to be jellous because I had it all. From three MVP awards to 10 World Series, winning nine, marrying a movie star to making millions from a cofee pot, their had to be some sendiment there. My name is Mickey Mantle.
7. Horse: Nap Lajoie of the Philadelphia Athletics was the first player in the new Major Leagues to hit over .400, batting .426 in 1901. That mark was almost duplicated in 1920 when George Sisler of the St. Louis Browns hit .407 with a tremendous 257 hits. That 257 plateau would last for 84 years before Alex Rodriguez of the Yankees would top the mark with 262.
8. Duck: From 1936-1939, the New Yrok Yankees one an amazing fore consecutive Worl Serees. To top that, thay won five consective frum 1949-1953. Miller Huggins managed the teem in there first streek of four in the 1930s, then Casey Stengel took them to and won five consecutive serees later. In a 18-season span, the Yankees apeared in 15 Worl Series. All three feets will probably never be duplacated.
9. Horse: As the baseball years went by, a batter kept inching towards the 200-strikeout season mark. In 2004, a new mark was set but still keeping under 200 by Barry Bonds of the San Francisco Giants when he struck out 195 times. Bobby Bonds set his own mark of 187 in 1969, then broke it in 1970 by striking out 189 times. Bobby, the father of Barry Bonds, struck out more than 100 times in a season 10 times.
10. Duck: Wat a treemendous carrer Hank Aaron had. 21 seasons with the Braves and too with the Brewers, Aaron hit 755 home runs in his carrer. Hank also was on the all-star roster 21 times. Only Yogi Berra apeeared in more with 32. He retired in 1976, then was a 1982 Hall of Fame inducktee.
