Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the opening scene, who was seen in a flashback as a young boy?

Answer: Jack Shephard

The episode began with a flashback of Jack's where he was a young boy at a basketball court and a couple bullies were beating up his friend. One of them pinned Jack down so he could not assist his friend. Jack managed to get up but the bully got the better of Jack by punching him in the face.
2. Who yelled for Jack to help a woman out at sea?

Answer: Charlie Pace

Right after Jack's flashback ended, he was seen sitting on the beach and he heard Charlie screaming for him to help. Charlie pointed out to the sea and that was when Jack heard a woman screaming. Jack ran out to help the person since Charlie could not swim and he came upon Boone, who was also out at sea. Jack advised Boone to just breathe as he took him back to shore.
3. Who told Jack that the woman he failed to rescue was named Joanna?

Answer: Kate Austen

During the opening credits, Jack was walking around the beach and Kate went up to talk to him. Jack asked her who the woman was that he could not rescue out at sea and Kate informed him her name was Joanna. Kate said Joanna was not supposed to have been on the plane since she had another flight but her doctor advised her, due to an ear infection, to change her flight.
4. Michael told Walt to drink the ocean water.

Answer: False

In Michael and Walt's first scene, they were out by the beach and Walt was about to have a drink of ocean water but Michael advised him not to drink it. Walt asked why and Michael told him how ocean water would make him thirsty. Walt, again, asked him why that was and Michael just reiterated to him not to drink it.
5. Near the beginning of the episode, Sun told Jin she did not want any water.

Answer: True

Jin and Sun were down near the beach and Jin spoke to Sun in Korean and told her to look at her lips and that she needed water. Sun told him she was alright and did not need any water. Sun asked Jin when someone would come rescue them and Jin stated he believed they would be rescued.
6. About ten minutes into the episode, who interrupted Sawyer while he was reading?

Answer: Shannon Rutherford

Sawyer was seen reading a book and that is when Shannon went up to him to talk. She asked him if he had something and he said she was in his light. Shannon asked him what he meant so he simply said the words "light" and "comma" and "sticks." He referred to Shannon's legs as "sticks."
7. Who asked Kate if she had a hairbrush, while Kate was folding clothes?

Answer: Claire Littleton

Midway through the episode, Kate was seen down by the beach folding some clothes and Claire asked her if she had a hairbrush. Kate told her she did not have one and Claire mentioned she must have looked in about 20 suitcases for one. Claire told Kate she found it weird how she could not find a hairbrush after looking so carefully for one in all the luggage.
8. Who told Jack there was a problem; that problem being they were low on water?

Answer: Hugo "Hurley" Reyes

Hurley went to go look for Jack and he found him and commented how Jack looked tired. He informed Jack they had a problem and that was when he asked Jack to come take a look at the water cooler. It turned out that there was very little water left for all the survivors.
9. Boone told Jack he wanted him to leave him out there in the water so he could get back to shore on his own.

Answer: True

There was one scene where Boone spoke with Jack and asked him why he did not just leave him out there in the water. It was not that Boone wanted to die out in the water since he told Jack he could have made it back to shore without his help. Jack told Boone he was drowning and that was why he felt obligated to save him. Boone denied that this was the case and told Jack he should have rescued Joanna and then he could have made it back on his own but Jack insisted Boone would not have been able to save Joanna.
10. Walt told who that Claire fell down again?

Answer: Kate Austen

As Kate continued to fold clothes, Walt was seen running towards Kate and so she turned around to see what the matter was. Walt informed her that Claire had fallen down again. Kate went to go look for Claire but Michael and Charlie had already found her.
