The episode showed several characters in flash sideways scenes and the first one involved Jack and Claire eating breakfast. They decided to spend time together since they had just fond out they were half siblings. Jack also brought along his son, David, to the breakfast. While Jack was eating breakfast with Claire and David, he received a phone call from someone telling him that they found his lost luggage, as in his father's coffin. Jack then hung up the phone and got up to go get the coffin. It was then revealed that Desmond Hume had been the caller and he faked being a representative for Oceanic Flights.

In another flash sideways scene, Desmond was at the school where Ben and Locke worked and Ben noticed him. He got in front of Desmond's car and threatened to contact the cops due to his role in running down Locke. Desmond got outside and told Ben that he did not intend to hurt Locke.

Ben and Desmond got into a fight and it was after the fight that he visited Locke at the infirmary. He relayed to Locke what he and Desmond spoke about recently. Once Locke heard all he had to from Ben, he got up and went to go speak to Jack.

Ben was in the parking lot and he saw Alex Rousseau there and she offered to give him a ride home in her mother's car (her mother was Danielle Rousseau). Alex said it would be best if Ben not drive since he had an injured arm. Once Alex said she could get him a meal, Ben said he would glad to get a ride home.

In another flash sideways scene, Desmond went to the police station and spoke to Sawyer. While he spoke to him, he confessed to running over John Locke in the school parking lot. Sawyer then tossed Desmond into the same cell where Sayid was, as Sayid was being detained at that time.

In scenes on the island, the survivors from a previous episode's submarine explosion washed ashore and they were revealed to be Jack, Kate, Sawyer and Hurley. When they all got up, Jack told them that they had to locate Desmond. Jack stated that it was reasonable to find Desmond since the "Man in Black" (John Locke) wanted Desmond dead so therefore they would need him.
