"American Horror Story" - Sarah Paulson's Roles Quiz

Answer: Coven

Cordelia Goode was a victim of a number of concerns in "Coven" wherein she was the daughter of Fiona Goode, the Supreme of the New Orleans coven, and always in her shadow. As the season unfolded not only did she lose her eyesight, but it was revealed that her husband was actually a witch hunter. In the end of the season she passes the Seven Wonders and subsequently becomes the new Supreme, taking control of the coven in her mother's passing.

Cordelia Goode returns, substantially, in the "Apocalypse" season, the bulk of which features most of the "Coven" cast returning to defeat the Anti-Christ.

Answer: Murder House

Introduced in the show's sixth episode, "Piggy Piggy", Billie Dean Howard marks the first time Sarah Paulson is seen in the series. A spiritual medium, Billie Dean is a guest of Constance Langdon (played by Jessica Lange) who, after explaining the nature of restless spirits to Violet, gives Constance a message from beyond the veil from her daughter, Addie.

Billie Dean returns in "Hotel" as well, appearing to speak to the ghosts of the Hotel Cortez (though she is frightened off).

Answer: Freak Show

Featured in "Freak Show", Bette and Dot Tattler were conjoined twin sisters attached at the neck, meaning that they had one body, but two heads, each capable of independent thought and speech. Though the Tattler Sisters spend much of the season pursuing different ventures (one being an attempt at removing the other sister from the body), their love for one another keeps them together, even as the Freak Show itself, fading away in Jupiter, Florida, falls apart.

Answer: Double Feature - Red Tide

Appearing in the first half of the "Double Feature" tenth season of the show, Tuberculosis Karen was met by characters in Provincetown, Massachusetts, where the Gardner family holed themselves away for the winter while Harry attempted to write a new book. An unaccomplished artist and a junkie, Karen meant well but found herself caught up in tragedy over the course of the season, eventually taking one of the little black pills-- the Muse-- and killing Mickey before slitting her wrists and dying in the ocean.

Answer: Apocalypse

Paulson's first character to appear in "Apocalypse", Wilhemina Venable was the iron-fisted leader of Outpost 3, one of the few holdouts after the nuclear apocalypse set forth in this season. She only manages to survive a few episodes when she, along with most of the outpost, is killed by some means or another (the Anti-Christ shows up). Once the outpost is wiped out, the witches from "Coven" return, and Paulson flips between Cordelia Goode and Venable until the season's end.

Answer: Double Feature - Death Valley

Playing the former first lady in this outing, Paulson filled in the role of Mamie Eisenhower who, sometimes in support of her husband but more so in support of her own self, not only acted as a vessel for alien life, but became immortal, assisting the aliens aboard their research ship to find a suitable method of maintaining the longevity of their species. Though she's a cold woman, she attempts to fight for humanity in her final moments and she's killed for her feeble attempt.

Answer: Hotel

Also known as Hypodermic Sally, Sally was one of the ghosts that haunted the Hotel Cortez in the "Hotel" season. A former junkie, she still has ties to many of the hotel's residents, alive or dead, though she was killed by Iris, pushed out a window on an upper floor back in 1994. Sally eventually finds a modicum of happiness while her spirit is trapped in the Hotel, becoming an online blogger despite the circumstances and finding her ties to the outside world.

Answer: Asylum

Ol' Lana Banana, Lana Winters originally headed to Briarcliff to uncover the truth behind local serial killer Bloody Face, but what she found was that her prying was a surefire way to get locked into the asylum herself. What unfolded for Lana was nothing short of horrific as she not only found her story, but had to find a way to escape the building with her sanity and her life. Lana ends up being one of the only survivors of Briarcliff, eventually becoming a major reporter.

She returns in "Roanoke" as well, coming out of retirement to interview Lee Harris, who survived two massacres at the house there.

Answer: Cult

One of the lead characters from "Cult", Ally Mayfair-Richards was Paulson's most grounded character to-date. With the season being set in the present day post-2016 election, it followed Ally as she tried to protect her unorthodox family from the onslaught of a coming political uprising. Though Ally was riddled with fears early in the season, the circumstances forced her to go to extremes to stop the cult and fight for herself.

She emerged victorious by the end of the season, even if that meant having to kill her wife.

Answer: Roanoke

Though she portrayed Shelby Miller in 'My Roanoke Nightmare', Paulson's actual "Roanoke" role was that of British actress Audrey Tindall, who proceeded into the 'Return to Roanoke' segments as herself, heading back to the haunted house and site of the massacre as part of a TV extravaganza only to discover that the myths about it were real all along. Audrey is close to surviving the events therein, but she's killed after the final night, shot down by the police when she tries to kill Lee Harris.
