Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:

Season 1 of "American Idol" came down to Kelly Clarkson and Justin Guarini. Kelly won and released "A Moment Like This" as her lead single. Kelly has become a music superstar and talk show host since winning the first season in 2002.

Season 2 came down to Clay Aiken and Ruben Studdard. Clay's winning song in 2003 was "Flying Without Wings". Season 3 was the battle of the divas with Jennifer Hudson, Diana Degarma, and Fantasia Barrino all battling for the title. Fantasia Barrino wowed the audience with her cover of "Summertime" and won and released the inspirational "I Believe" as her coronation song.

In season 4, we had the most successful artist to win "American Idol". Country music superstar Carrie Underwood has sold over sixty million records worldwide as of 2024 but her career got its big start with "Inside Your Heaven", her winning song in 2005.

Season 5's finalists were Taylor Hicks and Katherine McPhee. Taylor released "Do I Make You Proud" after winning the fifth season. While Taylor won, most viewers remember season 5 for the powerful performances of Chris Daughtry who many thought would win.

A unique situation happened in the finale of season 6 where both finalists, Jordin Sparks and Blake Lewis, released the same song after the season ended. "This Is My Now" was the first coronation song to be chosen by the fans in an online poll.

David Archuleta and David Cook were the finalists in season 7 with Cook winning. His kick-off season "The Time Of My Life" went to radio in 2008. Season 8 came down to Kris Allen and Adam Lambert. While Lambert has since become the lead singer of the Classic Rock group, Queen, it was Kris who won and "No Boundaries" was the coronation single.

Season 9 did not have an official coronation song as winner Lee DeWyze was given the opportunity to choose his lead single. Lee chose the U2 anthem "Beautiful Day" for the finale. Season 10 came down to two country music singers who both went on to future success on Country Radio. Lauren Alaina came in second, Scotty McCreery won and was given the song, "I Love You This Big" for the coronation song to end the tenth season.
