Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. An ostensibly depressed courier, James Sidis, arrives at a bookstore to make a delivery. The bookstore manager recognizes the courier and asks the courier to autograph a book. What is particularly notable about this courier.

Answer: He was a supremely gifted child prodigy.

The bookstore manager just happens to recognize James Sidis from an early work that Sidis authored in his younger days. The manager goes on to reel off information about Sidis, such as being the youngest to have ever graduated from M.I.T., authoring three books, and publishing thirty-five papers. Sidis had accomplished all of this before the age of eighteen.
2. Sidis has just received an unnecessary splenectomy. He seems fine until he begins uttering nonsensical sentences. Chase is attending and indicates that James is suffering from what acute malady?

Answer: a stroke

The incidence of a stroke presents another piece of the diagnostic puzzle. However, it seems to provoke more questions than answers. While the team posits possible explanations, House is annoyingly trying to find the location of Cuddy's sister's house.
3. In an attempt to discover some underlying cause to the patient's growing list of symptoms, House orders a search of the patient's home for toxins as well as a non-standard toxin screen. What seemingly incriminating evidence do Taub and Chase discover at the home?

Answer: a hidden bottle of vodka

Taub wonders why such an intelligent person would choose to live in such modest surroundings. During the course of their search, Chase uncovers a large bottle of vodka sequestered away in a vent. While determining what to search for, Foreman mentions the medical mnemonic, "Otis Campbell," for which each letter represents a class of seizure-inducing toxins.

It also happens to the name of the character who portrayed the town drunk on the popular t.v. series, "The Andy Griffith Show."
4. House appears to earn an invitation to Cuddy's Thanksgiving dinner by seeing patients in the clinic. It's House's intention though, to disrupt the happy occasion. What happens to thwart House's plan?

Answer: Cuddy gives House a decoy address.

Not really trusting House to behave himself during the Thanksgiving dinner, Cuddy gives House the address of a family that is gone on vacation. The house sitter is expecting House and offers him a turkey sandwich. House seems to accept with some resignation the fact that he has been duped.
5. Lucas arrives home after the dinner party. Lucas is surprised to see House slouched on a chair in the living room with a nearly empty bottle of liquor dangling from his hand. Very much inebriated, House collapses onto the sofa. What does House confess to Lucas?

Answer: House declares his love for Cuddy.

Lucas offers House a cup of instant coffee. House barely manages to stand up and proceeds to tell Lucas about missed opportunities and failures. House tells Lucas, "I don't deserve her." After Lucas helps House onto the sofa, House looks up at Lucas and almost pleadingly says, "I love her."
6. Again, as is so often the case, Wilson provides House with some tidbit of information that leads to an epiphany. What has Sidis been doing to himself?

Answer: Sidis has been self-medicating to lower his I.Q.

While House is regaling Wilson with a tale about how he deceived Lucus. Wilson retorts, "You're right. It's his fault for being stupid." Naturally, this gives House the requisite clue as to how Sidis has been self-medicating himself in order to diminish his intellect.
7. House sees someone while conducting clinic duty. She is really an investigator for an insurance company. House is snide and rude to her. Nevertheless, he strikes a bargain with her. What is the deal?

Answer: House pays her twenty dollars to appear pleased with the visit.

Despite the insulting and discourteous evaluation by House, the investigator agrees to accept payment for appearing cheerful upon leaving the clinic. Unfortunately for House, the ruse is useless as Cuddy has left for the day.
8. The team has to come back to the table after a new symptom has emerged. House is being particularly harsh with the team members in a search for ideas. House perhaps oversteps the bounds of propriety with Chase. How does Chase respond?

Answer: Chase punches House in the face.

In House's quest for answers, he badgers each of the team members. When House suggests that he call Cameron, Chase can no longer contain his frustration and punches House squarely in the face. Cuddy wants to reprimand Chase or have House press charges, but House refuses.
9. In a bedside interview with House, Sidis makes a certain revelation about his past that leads House to make a conclusive diagnosis. What does Sidis reveal to House?

Answer: Sidis says that he once attempted suicide.

During the course of a bedside interview, Sidis suggests that being so highly intelligent is lonely. House replies, "It's not that bad." Sidis says, "and you're not that smart." Sidis reveals that he was once so desperately lonely that he attempted suicide by leaping off of an eight-story building.

He broke three ribs along with some other injuries. After testing, it's confirmed that Sidis has accessory spleens, since his spleen had been severed into parts after his jump.
10. Is it true that House allows Sidis to self-medicate, thus continuing to cloud Sidis's true intelligence?

Answer: Yes

After listening to the story of happiness vs. unhappiness, House hands Sidis a bottle of what appears to be dextromethorphan. It's the medication that Sidis had been using to dim his intelligence and thought processes. Taub approaches House and remarks, "Einstein is giving himself a lobotomy and you're cool with that?" House quotes the title of the episode, "Ignorance is bliss."
