Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Islanders found a polar bear in the jungle, which Sawyer shot.

The polar bear is one of the first symbols that the island defies the survivors' understanding of science and nature. Their origin is kept secret until the DVD epilogue, "The New Man in Charge", where a clip cut from the finale reveals that the DHARMA Initiative brought polar bears to the island to study them.

The early scene from "Pilot, Part 2" (S1E2) also reveals that there is more to the plane passengers than meets the eye, with guns somehow onboard and Sawyer hoarding items that he finds in the wreckage.
2. Locke and Boone found a hatch in the jungle.

Boone and Locke's discovery comes as the cliffhanger to "All the Best Cowboys Have Daddy Issues" (S1E11). Boone is convinced that they are lost when Locke discovers the hatch, indicating Locke's unique connection to the island and his ability to navigate it.

The plane survivors finally see the hatch open in the first season finale, an opening that paves the way for many more questions about The Numbers, Desmond, the DHARMA Initiative and the 108-minute countdown.
3. Charlie found a Virgin Mary statue containing heroin.

The juxtaposition of religious imagery with the subject of Charlie's addiction - perhaps, of good and evil - is part of the symbolism of "LOST". Charlie takes a statue with him in the season 1 finale ("Exodus, Part 2") when Sayid brings him to a crashed plane sight (not the one they arrived on) and mentions in passing that the many statues in its wreckage contain heroin.

Charlie's battle with addiction is a major theme of seasons 1 and 2. It is not until "The 23rd Psalm" (S2E10) that we learn how the statues were intended to smuggle heroin through Mr. Eko's flashbacks. Charlie has the willpower to throw the remaining statues in the sea in "Three Minutes" (S2E22).
4. Tail section plane survivors found Michael, Sawyer, and Jin.

In "Adrift" (S2E2), Michael, Sawyer, and Jin finally make it back to the island after their near-death experience with The Others kidnapping Walt. Jin is panicked to find Bernard, Cindy, and Libby approaching them, assuming them to be Others.

The tail section survivors mirror the middle section survivors who we follow from the pilot. Bernard and Rose are married partners hoping to reunite with each other. Kate is a criminal while Ana Lucia is a police officer. Jack rejects non-scientific explanations for the island's properties while Mr. Eko is a priest. However, the tail section survivors have a much rougher journey than the middle section survivors, and are immediately besieged by The Others and suffering further attacks as well as uncertainty over who the spy is. Only four of them (except those recruited as Others) meet the middle section survivors.
5. Danielle found a man claiming to be Henry Gale in one of her traps.

In "One of Them", Benjamin Linus is captured by Danielle Rousseau in a net trap. She is immediately convinced he is one of The Others, but the uncertainty over this continues throughout the second season. Even Sayid is unable to conclusively determine who he is through interrogation. Ben is a master manipulator, extremely careful with his words and able to say exactly what the situation demands for other people to do as he wants.

Despite the fact he is unarmed, captured, and could easily be killed by the plane survivors, who would likely do so if they concluded he was one of The Others, he makes it out of the situation alive.

In many later instances he again willingly approaches life-threatening situations unarmed. Information is what makes Ben dangerous.
6. Sawyer found the con man who played a role in his parents' death.

Anthony Cooper is perhaps the purest villain in the series, shown many times to commit great evil and never to express remorse. Locke is conceived through Cooper's relationship with a 14- or 15-year-old when he is twice her age. Cooper has no interest in being a parent but manipulates Locke into donating a kidney to him before completely abandoning him again. Cooper is later responsible for paralyzing Locke by throwing him out of the eighth floor of a building when Locke threatens to reveal his latest con.

Sawyer's character development from childhood is based on Cooper's con, which leads to both of his parents' destitution and suicide. Aged eight, Sawyer pledges in a letter to find and kill Cooper - a letter that he carries with him for his entire life.

Cooper, appears on the island in one of the series' biggest unsolved mysteries. Ben presents him to Locke through the analogy of a "magic box" property that the island possesses. Ben wants The Others to watch Locke fail to kill his father, in order to exclude Locke from challenging his power. Richard allows Locke to make the connection that this man has not just harmed him but also Sawyer. When Cooper denies Sawyer the satisfaction of fully reading his letter, Sawyer kills him.
7. Ben and Locke found Jacob's cabin and a person asking "help me".

Locke demands to see Jacob, which we will later learn is threatening to Ben as he is only pretending to have met Jacob. Ben pretends to have a conversation with Jacob at the cabin. He is quite in the dark about many of the deeper workings of the island.

A man reveals himself to Locke - with hindsight this may have been The Man in Black, but at the time it seems to be Jacob. Ben shoots Locke, threatened and jealous of Locke's connection to the island. Despite the bulk of Ben's life taking place on the island, he still does not Locke's intuition. Ben and Locke later visit the cabin with Hurley, in "Cabin Fever" (S4E11). Locke enters alone and The Man in Black, appearing to be Jack's father, Christian, tells him to move the Island.
8. Nadia found Sayid after an Oceanic Six press conference.

Sayid was an interrogator for the Iraqi Republican Guard. When told to interrogate his childhood friend Nadia, he began to question the morality of his actions and helped her to escape. Afterward, he left Iraq and was promised the whereabouts of Nadia by the American and Australian intelligence services for complicity in their encouragement of a suicide bomb attack. This is how he ends up flying from Australia to America and crashing on the island.

The fourth season builds up to the escape of six Oceanic Flight 815 passengers from the island, one of whom is Sayid. In "There's No Place Like Home, Part 1" (S4E12), these six passengers are subject to a press conference in which they stick to a prearranged narrative to preserve the island's secrecy. Sayid and Nadia's marriage after their reunion is short-lived, as she is killed in a car crash.
9. Desmond found Faraday's mother and made an unexpected reunion with other islanders.

"This Place Is Death" (S5E5) continues a disorienting number of jumps through time for the islanders. Faraday is the only person with some understanding of what is happening - or has happened. Meanwhile, Desmond is trying to find Faraday's mother. He arrives at a church with Ben, Jack, Sun, and Desmond, where Eloise reveals details of the island's movement and how they can return to it.

Faraday's mother Eloise has some knowledge of time traveling as she killed a time-traveling Faraday in young adulthood. She kept Faraday in the dark about this throughout his life and he only realizes she knew how he would die on his deathbed.
10. Sun and Jin found each other for the first time since the freighter explosion.

In "The Last Recruit" (S6E13), Sun and Jin reunite for the first time since the freighter explosion at the end of season 4. Sun regains the ability to speak English.

In the following episode, "The Candidate" (S6E14), Sawyer goes against Jack's advice and accidentally activates a bomb within their submarine. As it floods, Sun is trapped and Jin refuses to leave her. They both drown.
